Oh goodness me. I just bought this on a whim. Didn’t expect to be rolling around on the floor laughing out loud.
This book is ludicrous. Funny. Bizarre. Crazy. Try reading pages 26 and 27 and not collapse with laughter. (I’ve barely read the rest of the book yet – can’t get past those couple of pages that opened at random.)
Not sure why I’m asked for my age (as if I’m a child) ot the age of the book’s recipient before I can post this review – 60+ if you must know.

An excellent book to complete my series. Unavailable in New Zealand. The congo story I could only buy through a university bookshop. This black and white drawings story is excellent and ably sets up the subsequent series. If you love Herge’s TinTin you must purchase or forever regret not owning the very first story in the long series!!!

Written by Herge when he was young and starting out as a cartoonist for a magazine. It’s an interesting book to have in your collection from a historic and character/artwork development perspective. It’s quite a long story and isn’t in colour and although there are some weak points in the script it’s generally an exciting and enjoyable read. Snowy has a main part and it’s funny to see his continual remarks and comments to Tintin throughout. Other regular characters are not a feature of the piece. The artwork fluctuates in quality especially the Soviet characters but even at this early stage Herge was great at drawing cars, trains and planes and really captures the movement and speed of these vehicles, it’s a sign of some of the types of things we see in the other books. It’s an enjoyable read and I’d recommend it, it’s not just for enthusiasts and collectors.
