This was bought more for the parent (a big fan of Final Fantasy) than the child, but it’s a great book for both.. the story is nice, but it’s the artwork that really seals the deal on this one. Ultimately this is a fun and suitable opportunity for parents to introduce their young children to the world of Final Fantasy.

When I first picked up a Final Fantasy game as a teen, I never dreamt that over twenty years later, I’d be reading a Final Fantasy picture book to my four-year-old daughter. This is a lovely little book, filled with beautiful watercolour illustrations. Series fans will be pleased to spot classic FF job classes like black mage and white mage, alongside recurring series monsters like Bomb and Marlboro – and of course, cute little Chocobo himself!
The actual prose is probably the weakest part of the experience – it’s standard fare about standing up to monsters with the power of friendship, but it works well enough for a children’s story.
Overall I think I probably get a bit more out of this than my daughter does, but she seems to enjoy listening to it, so perhaps we have another FF fan in the making!
