I was finding it hard to “downsize” my cooking , and this book has been a great help .
All the recipes are for one (just as it says in the title!) .
I don’t have the extensive store-cupboard implied in some of the recipes , but this book is encouraging me to expand my store cupboard and recipes .
I recommend it for those on their own .

Looks like this is the book for me, already bought in some produce to enable me to at least eat something edible, I can cook and bake but sadly out of practice, this book is easy to follow. First recipe trying will be peach slice (should include almonds but not allowed them) also no peaches available so using nectarines. Well worth the money!

Lots and lots of instructions like “half a can of cannelini beans, 1 teasp. Sesame oil…”. What if you don’t like the recipes? Potentially wasteful – and a bloody lot of time spent preparing these recipes. Just the sort of irritating cookbooks with lovely pictures but no practical knowledge of how you feel after a day’s work and in need of nutritious cheapish grub, prepared and cooked with the minimum of prep. Handy cookbook for anyone living alone.

I AM SINGLE AND BUSY AT WORK SO I TEND TO BULK COOK AND FREEZE BUT MEALS NEVER TASTE QUITE AS GOOD AS FRESHLEY COOKDED. THE FLAVOURS ARE BALLANCED IN THIS BOOK BECAUSE THE INGREDIENTS ARE MEASURED FOR ONE . IT DOESNT TAKE LONG TO COOK THE MEALS. AL THE MEALS ARE CALORIE COUNTED AND INCLUDE INFORMATION ON PROTEIN ETC. I LOVE THESE LITTLE BOOKS I HAVE THREE, THEY ARE VERY USEFUL AND TAKE UP LITTLE ROOM ON MY VERY FULL BOOK SHELF.

Seems to be aimed at working people in town or city who can collect ingredients on way home from work.
For older person who only is able to do one main shop a week it’s lovely looking but too many ingedients.

I bought this for a friends birthday, the person now lives alone and was asking for ideas for main meals which would be enjoyable and not take three days or more to finish. I saw this and as I generally find Good Food recipes to be good I bought it for him. My friend has given mixed reviews on it, he felt many of the recipes needed too many ingredients and felt there was too much faffing for others. I had a look at the recipes before I gave the gift and I thought the ingredient lists were reasonable so I can only assume that some recipes are better for people who cook from scratch regularly. I also didn’t have any issues with the stages of the cooking so again it might be a better book for more experienced cooks.
When I looked through the book I was particularly impressed with the hints and suggestions for buying ingredients for one person and I thought it covered this issue very well indeed.. It seems to me that the recipes are well researched and issues of shopping for one are recognised and addressed, some of the recipes appear to be more suited to enthusiastic cooks who have reasonably comprehensive store cupboards and don’t mind adding ingredients during the cooking process.
