I enjoyed reading Peter’s latest book. Apart from the sound advice about how to deliver a good ‘put down’, it also has some great examples of a humorous or potent retort from some of our local and national figures. Often, our politicians are portrayed as lacking in humour or being sharp witted. This books takes us behind the soundbites and reveals that in fact many of them have this gift and that in the cut and thrust of politics, it is often the witty retort that takes the wind out of the sails of an adversary. Well worth a read and makes a good gift for Christmas.

A book for everyone to take something from. Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish and left a lasting impression.

Fun book bringing together some of the all time great putdowns with some sage advice on how they should be deployed. A very amusing read and plenty of verbal ammunition for every possible eventuality!

I’d expect this infantile drivel from a child.
“delve into an exploration of wit and sophisticated verbal sparring” ..Really???? This coming from a man so dour that he has difficulty replying at all never mind delivering “punchy zingers”.
For a book that boasts the secrets to “elevating your conversational prowess”, the pinnacle of his prowess, and “verbal gymnastics” during his stint in Irish politics, was to repeatedly say “NO” and “NEVER”, ad nauseam while smirking. I’m sure the status of Oscar Wilde and Dorothy Parker are secure for the foreseeable future.
I’m not saying he’s plagiarised these “biting remarks” and “well-timed sarcastic comebacks” from back copies of the Beano and other children’s comics of that ilk, but that’s the level we’re looking at here. So if you’d like to sound like a petulant child in the schoolyard then by all means waste your money on this tripe.
Stick to what you know Peter, ( whatever that is) ‘cause God knows it isn’t as an author.

A really good read… worth getting!

This self published self help book from the former first minister of Northern Ireland was published free on kindle unlimited. Thankfully I didn’t pay.

On more than one occasion I had to double check this wasn’t a parody as it read like something Steve Coogan would produce as his alter ego Alan Partridge. Alas this isn’t a joke, this folks is really real!

I feel the author should have let a critical friend read the final manuscript before pushing publish. I would have hoped said friend would have cautioned him to stop.

The book is ostensibly an attempt at a witty stocking filler for Christmas. It will probably appeal to your DUP granny or dad as a bit of fun on Christmas Day, beyond that it’s really not worth it.

This is a compendium of quotes that we have all read before, the only new ones are silly little non quotables from a few local politicians. The one from Arlene Foster about St Patrick’s day left me scratching my head as it’s not much of a quote or even that interesting.

If Peter wanted to write a witty book, he would have been better compiling some anecdotes from his 50 odd years at the coalface of NI politics, that may have been more interesting. Perhaps an idea for the next book? Or perhaps on the evidence of this book it’s time just to retire and go for a few long walks

Peter has used the power of words against opponents over a career spanning four decades. This book is a great resource for anyone interested in learning about how to use words to defend and attack.

This is a very entertaining little book with quotes and retorts from a huge range of people in public life. Hope it reaches a wide audience.
