Growing up Allegra is known as ‘Freckles’ – a reference to the many freckles on her skin which she joins together into constellations in an unusual method of self harm. We slowly discover the reasons behind her unhappiness and sense of isolation and consequently why, as a young adult, she has left her home in Kerry to live in a suburb of Dublin. I felt the central premise about the 5 people you spend time with was a bit too laboured. The characters were well drawn and I enjoyed most of the story but the resolution was a bit too neat and so lacked believability.

Took a while to get into it but after finishing it I enjoyed it just found it a bit slow

This was a really slow start and hard to get into but then became a book I just had to finish. Makes you think about life and the people around you. Ending wasnt what I expected but had me in tears.

I always enjoy the stories from Cecilia Aherne, and this one is no exveption.
Allegra Bird was raised in Ireland by her single father. Despite life not being easy, Allegea is now a traffic warden who enjoys her job even the many run ins she has with the public gives her some pleasure. However, Allegra is struggling in. Her world with feelings of loneliness, detachment, and dealing with the everyday problems of life.
Allegra then meets a man who tells her that are products of five people around us. This gets Allegra thinking, and she starts to work on identifying these five people who may help her life become better.
An easy to read novel with a lot of heartbreak and a few tears. I rate this book a 4 star read.

I really enjoyed this book, the first I’ve read by this author. It’s a poignant tale of one woman’s struggle to find her place in the world and I was gripped right from the start. Humorous and touching and full of surprises. .

I so wanted to like this book and it was difficult because I just couldn’t get the flow of it at all. I did regret buying it but I have read all her books and didn’t think twice at the time. Sorry.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book in the end. It took me a while to get into the mindset of Allegra, who she is, what motivates her and how she sees the world. The book is a series of thoughts told from her perspectives so it lacks punctuation which can make it feel quite disjointed and a bit confusing at times but I came to love Allergra’s nievety and enjoyed her journey of self discovery.
