In a town called Oakland there is an old building that was built in 1834, named The Redwood Asylum. The people of Oakland like to forget it’s there, like it is a secret. It has now been renamed The Redwood Psychiatric Center .

A nurse named Jessica starts working at Redwood, she is assigned floor 5. Level 5 is a tough one, a lot of deranged and ill people on this floor. During Jessica’s first week at the job strange things began to happen, talks of ghosts, the patients and the strangeness of the whole building. There are some terrifying turns of events, some history of Redwood coming to light and some of Jessica’s past coming back to haunt her, is something or someone following her home from Redwood? Are the patients at Redwood actually crazy? Is Jessica Crazy?

Paranormal meets horror is a great way to describe this book! I enjoyed the way the story was told. I couldn’t believe what happened and what was happening the whole time. So so so so good!

I had really enjoyed A Serial Killer’s Daughter by the same author so bought this but was really disappointed. No building of tension, no character development and not at all spooky or scary – the Serial Killer’s Daughter was far scarier! It was also quite repetitive – 5B draws a picture, she takes it home, sees the ghost then the same thing happens again. And again. I’ve given it a couple of stars because I hadn’t actually spotted the ending so that was in its favour. It won’t stop my reading the author’s other books but think I’ll pass on the ‘paranormal’ ones., I like my horror with more suspense!

When Jessica decided to take up the nurse’s position at Redwood Asylum little did she know the horrors that await her inside.
Jessica is teamed up with Anna a lady that had worked at Redwood for years as her mother before her.
Starting on floor five which is where the most ‘insane’ patients are housed Jessica becomes attached to 5B the man that is residing there.
When Jessica is given pictures that the man has drawn little do she know that she will be taking home the horror of what he has drawn.
The ghosts of children start appearing before her wanting answers for their deaths, slowly Redwood gets its claws into Jessica but will she escape unharmed?
