Cars We Loved in the 1980s

It was brash and it was loud – the 1980s put paid to the glumness of the ’70s and nowhere was that more obvious than in the cars we drove, which took a quantum leap in durability, performance, equipment and style. They had to: Japanese quality and European design were luring away ever more customers. Features such as fuel injection, turbochargers, computer-controlled systems and four-wheel drive became commonplace. This was also the decade that brought us the people-carrier and the off-roader, new classes of car that radically reshaped family transport. Meanwhile, seatbelt-wearing became law, the M25 opened, speed cameras appeared and ram-raiding was the new motoring nemesis. Relive everything car-related in Britain in the 1980s with Giles Chapman.

a good book for reminiscing. would make a great present for all ages.
my husband and I both loved reading this and our children are enjoying it too. they are amazed at how much smarter cars look today but i kinda like the look of the 1980s versions

A little coffee-table book, full of charm, but not full of detail. Good photos. Look elsewhere for more in-depth info, but if you just want to reminisce, it’s fine and fun.

I have loved cars since I could talk so this is another cracking read for me

An interesting read and overall a worthwhile purchase.

Very good book, but it lacked the enthusiasm the way the first two books were written. (Cars We Loved In The 1960s and Cars We Loved In The 1970s) I was (almost) disappointed but then I came to my senses and realised it was about cars – so it made me feel good again! 🙂
