£19.19£22.00 (-13%)
The Hunger Games meets vampires in this heart-wrenching, epic fantasy romance of dark magic and bloodthirsty intrigue from bestselling author Carissa Broadbent.
Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always ― always ― guard your heart.
The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.
But winning won’t be easy against the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.
Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father’s crown… and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.
But there’s no room for compassion in the Kejari ― and nothing more deadly than love . . .
The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series, the bestselling TikTok sensation by Carissa Broadbent. It is followed by The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King.

This book held my interest. I tend to be a flighty reader unless the book is really good; this one did not disappoint. Love Oraya and Rahin. This is not your usual vampire romance. Looking forward to the next one.

Vampires! They are sexy and this book doesn’t fail to portrait that. It also shows the not so sexy side, the not so romantic side. It’s hard to write about something that has been written about in so many ways, yet this was original. Every time I thought the story was heading one way it went another. I did not think even once it was going to end where it did, which is nice.
The only reason this is a 4 stars instead of 5 is because there was too much repetition in the introspection of the MC for my liking. I understood her motives and insecurities by half the book and having them repeated made me skip paragraphs. Apart from this, great story. Gorgeous edition. Highly recommended.

Read this book in little over a week and loved every bit of it. After finishing Fourth Wing a week prior, I was worried I’d find myself in a reading slump but after hearing good things about this book I took a chance and it was the best decision I could’ve made! I’m a huge fan of Twilight, ToG, and ACOTAR and this book is a sort of mixture between the three with its inclusion of vampires, dangerous tournaments and heated slow burn romance. The human slums and Oraya’s killing of vampires reminded me of Aelin’s assassin period while in Rifthold. I got hooked within the first few chapters and purchased the second book before I’d even finished it! Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a father, daughter dynamic and complicated love interests.

Couldn’t put this book down. Loved every minute of it. The idea of trials had me interested & read the discription I had it finished in 3 days. Can’t wait to start the 2nd!

This was a really good book, the take on vampires was pretty unique, which is huge since vampires have probably been done in so many ways already. I loved the contest aspect. Overall really good bing worthy read. One thing I wish there was more of was the romance and more of the world explored, felt quite confined to the one city and even that wasn’t really explored as much as it could have.

4.75 stars 3 spice
You know that tik tok sound that goes “why would you write this book” in like a crying kinda of voice. Well this is how I felt at the line 400pgs mark. Before I read this I had only heard of books that could make you giggle, cry, swoon and make your jaw drop. Because yes this made my eyes water. And to top everything off the writing was amazing- like so good. It wasn’t your regular style of writing just something about it didn’t make you want to put it down. Now there was only a couple of things about it I thought could of been different because it gave you that 5 star feeling but it just for me wasn’t quite a 5 star.
What I liked and the small amount I didn’t
The characters in this were incredible (yet was it just me who couldn’t properly pronouse any of them) Oraya was the definition of a girlboss, Raihn might have to join my boom boyfriend list and Mische needs to become my best friend and I need a book about her (just saying :)). Then Vincent then though he was a bit of a cow for the most part we all know he did it out of love for Oraya and his kingdom. The side characters were also so good and I never had the moment of ‘who is this and what did I miss’. The plot was also amazing like a hunger games with a vampire love story so good. And as a regular romance reader there was enough of it to keep me interested even if the slow burn was irritating but that’s only because I’m inpatient. The book in my opinion is a 3 on the spice scale it has 2 scenes with ‘spice’ in them. The reason that is quoted is because one of them is more disturbing than sexy I would say but the other is defo sexy and relatively long as well so if you want to skip it chaper 45.
The ending ( spoilers)
For me it was the ending that was that could of been a lot simpler and made me a lot more happy. In my opinion instead of making him win the thing just bring him back to life a lot more simple. That could of also set up the same plot for the next boom but instead of her having him they could of formed a new nightborn kingdom and had there subjects against them work a political uprising. That would of been just as interesting as what did happen but just less upsetting.
Now one thing I did want to touch on before I finish is that at the start this book has trigger warnings at the start which is an 11/10 from thw author it’s such a good thing to do but as a reviewer I’m here to tell you that they aren’t that extreme in my opinion. There is just regular high fantasy violence and its a little gory I guess but nothing like extremely upsetting. The SA is only a brief flashback and there is brief mention of SH.
Overall this book is a must read if not for the story the writing so I will defo be reading more of her books.

Oh my days this book has a hold on me from the first sentence. If I wasn’t reading it as part of a book club which has weekly discussions I would have finished it in one sitting.
Oraya, the fmc, is a human who lives in a world of vampires with their King as his adopted daughter. She is strong willed, determined, knows what she wants and refuses to be food for the vampires around her.
She takes part in a Kejari tournament which I won’t spoil for you but it’s really good. She meets Raihn (pronounced Rain), a turned vampire, and becomes his ally.
All I will say about Oraya and Raihn’s relationship is that I was so glad when they finally admitted to each other how they felt.
I felt like I was shadowing the characters in this book and with them experiencing the tournament. Through the tournament we learn about other types of vampires, the political situation and how the King became the King.
Cassie Broadbent did an amazing job writing this book. I was captivated and entertained the whole way through. I was always wanting to know what was going to happen.
100% recommend this book. I can’t wait to read book 2.
