I chose this book primarily because of it’s authors.Having read other books by Ross and finding them to be well written and informative I was not disappointed by this book compared to others I have read on the subject.
It is well laid out with all ‘Bases’ covered as far as Landscape photography is concerned.
Whilst I have only used the book for a short period of time, I have found some of the hints and tips to be invaluable.
As allegedly 70% of all photographers confess to Landscape Photography being their most popular subject matter then this book should appeal to a broad spectrum of readers, it is well illustrated throughout with all relevant information with regards Exposure, filters etc. However whilst not overly important, locations could have been included.also there appeared to be a slight’bias’ towards a particular brand of camera.
All in all, a book which should assist photographers to improve their landscape technique, from choosing the right equipment, through to printing the finished product.

It seems an increasing trend that photographic books need to spend pages and pages telling us about hardware. This topic ((hardware) has been covered ad nauseum.
However when we get to technique the book is very good. Please – publishers take note; more technique along the lines of 1) WHY. Why did I take this image? 2) HOW. How did I setup and capture the image? 3) Editing. What did I do in post-production to complete the image and how did I apply those edits?
Good buy – recommended.

This is a book for the digital photographer, nevertheless the film photographer will get a lot from this book too. It would have been better if more of the book considered composition. The authors discuss the rule of thirds, the golden section and the rule of odds but in my view all too briefly. The quality of light at different times of the day is discussed well as is the various types or locations you may wish to work with, forests, coasts etc. Not a bad book at all but just could have been a better book. That said this very non digital photographer got quite a lot from reading it, even enjoyed reading the digital stuff.

This book provides a good concise guide to Landscape starting with the basics – the camera and what gear you need.
It is easy to read, from the ground up in its approach and assumes nothing in respect of the reader’s knowledge/experience so there may be a lot some might know or be aware of but the
authors start at the beginning and work their way up.
At the end of the day if one knew everything that was in this book one would know a lot and yet there is always something else to learn or to tweak, learning and the application of knowledge in all things is an on going process.

This book arrived quickly, about an hour ago. Flicking through it, it looks brilliant. Gorgeous images. Concise explanations of every aspect of how to take landscape photos and the equipment used. If you are looking for a landscape photography course in a book, then this would be a good purchase.

After enjoying several Dawn2Dusk workshops run by Ross Hoddinott and Mark Bauer, I was hoping that the Landscape Photography Workshop book would be equally enjoyable and informative. I was not disappointed and the book combines beautiful and inspiring pictures, with straight forward and clearly presented advice. Having purchased several of Ross’ books on previous occasions (
Digital Exposure Handbook
,
The Digital Photographers Guide to Filters: The Complete Guide to Hardware and Software Filtration
and
Digital Macro Photography
), Ross and Mark have produced a well designed and informative “workshop” which take you through a range of considerations from equipment to creative assignments. The quality of the printing and binding is also good.
The chapters cover a comprehensive range of topics: Equipment, Exposure, Composition, Lighting, Filtration, Types of landscape, Advanced Technique, Post-processing, Printing and Creative assignments.
An excellent addition to your bookshelves for photographers of all abilities.

I’ve been serious about digital photography for two years now, working manually, and trying to learn by taking thousands of photos. I have over thirty excellent books on photography on my shelves, but my knowledge of photographic techniques is still very patchy because so many authors assume too much knowledge on the part of the reader and I simply don’t understand what they’re talking about much of the time. I need to know how and why things work; not just which combination of buttons to press.
For instance, I’ve read so many books and web pages trying to understand hyperfocal distance without result in the past, but the authors of this book managed to explain it so succinctly and so clearly that I was left wondering how other writers could make it seem so complicated.
This book covers so much that I previously only half-understood and is filling in all the gaps in my knowledge. I know that this is going to help me take much better landscape photos because I’ll know so much more about what I’m doing when I next stand behind a camera.
I will be recommending this book to friends starting out with landscape photography as the very first thing they should read. The photographs are inspiring and the entire book is motivating for beginners and more experienced photographers alike.
I’m off now to look at more books by these authors. I can’t go on the workshops, so I’m very grateful that these books exist.
