The Sister-in-Law: An utterly gripping psychological thriller

£1.90

‘I had to pick my jaw firmly up from the floor when I sadly finished this fantastic novel. I started reading it on Friday night and couldn’t take myself away from it until the wee small hours. I was captivated from start until finish.’ Goodreads Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

‘You don’t think Jamie and I have secrets, do you? No, we tell each other everything.’ She smiled. ‘Including your dirty little secret. So maybe it’s time to start being nice to me?’

THE WIFE: Clare is ready for a break. It’s been a tough year and now she wants to put her feet up. Arriving at the Italian villa for their summer holiday, she decides it’s high time her husband and his family did some of the work. After all, her husband owes her…

THE HUSBAND: Even though Dan had his head turned by someone else, he’s realised the error of his ways. He’s here now, and he says it’s for keeps. Clare can trust him, can’t she? At least he’ll have his brother there, to keep him in line…

THE BROTHER: Jamie is the prodigal child, back in the family fold again after years of travelling abroad. But when he gets to the villa, he’s not alone. He’s brought a wife, someone none of them have met before.

THE SISTER-IN-LAW: Ella is everything Clare isn’t. Glamorous. Young. Influential. But she knows a secret about Clare. Something that has the power to break the whole family apart.

And there’s someone who will do whatever it takes to make sure that this deep secret never comes to the surface.

An utterly unputdownable, gripping, twisty psychological thriller, perfect for fans of Before I Go To Sleep, The Girl on the Train and Date Night.

This is the first book I’m e read of She’s but it won’t be the last! I didn’t expect that bombshell at the end but as they say ‘it’s always the quiet 1’s’!!!

Now retired I have read over 500 books on my Kindle and I’m sorry to say that this was nearly the second novel to be binned. It was a drag to read and rather than scraping it I jumped to nearly the end just to see if I had guessed the ending. I was right and I think most readers would guess the ending.

What a book!! I think I may have found a new favourite author, the twist and turns in this book are jaw dropping.
Excitement right throughout. I really couldn’t put this book down and genuinely couldn’t wait to get my daily fix at bed time. I cannot wait to read the next.

This is the second book by sue Watson I have read, I like the amalfi setting, also the characters, not too many that you get confused. Almost worked out the ending, but not quite. Good read, now onto the next book.

Well what can I say. Another great read from Sue Watson.
Set in Italy the story sees Clare, husband Dan and their three children head to a lovely villa to enjoy a holiday with Dan’s parents Joy and Bob Taylor. Clare’s husband Dan has cheated on her and she is hoping that this holiday will give them time to relax and enjoy each others company again and get their marriage back on track. All seems well until Dan’s younger brother Jamie arrives with his new wife Ella who nobody had met as they themselves have only just got married and Jamie had not told his family.
Clare, keen to make bonds with Ella soon finds herself at the end of Ella’s undermining comments and is unsure how to deal with the situation. Ella is a glamorous, beautiful woman, a model, Instagram influencer and it appears that Clare is the only one who feels that Ella is not really who she says she is. Very quickly Clare realises that Ella knows a secret about her and Clare does not want that secret revealed so has to be cautious around Ella, although at times she finds herself unable to keep her thoughts to herself. You go girl!!!
I did not like Ella at all, an egocentric, self-indulgent character who is horrible to Clare, if I had been Clare I would have ended my holiday and returned home but in her position with the family and young children happy to be there it did make me think would this be as easy an option really. Clare has no family of her own and the Taylors provide that family network and support for her. As Ella’s comments continue the family appear never to hear the cutting remarks fired at Clare and this frustrated me – how could they be so deaf?????
As it rapidly moved towards a gripping conclusion with twists and turns and secrets revealed this book was for me a page turner and had an ending I didn’t see coming.
I would absolutely recommend this book , well done Sue Watson , another fantastic read

I really enjoyed this and found i couldn’t put it down! Clare and Dan and their kids are going on their annual holiday with his parents. We know things have been difficult for Claire and this holiday is an opportunity to refresh and repair her marriage. Dan’s brother Jamie arrives and to everyone’s surprise has a wife in tow. Ella seems to take a dislike to Clare straight away. She is horrible but she knows a secret about Clare and threatens to tell everyone if Clare doesn’t treat her nicely. But Clare knows a secret about Ella too!

This book was drama with every page. Ella was awful and I really enjoyed disliking her. There were a few twists and turns in the end that I hadn’t seen coming and overall things didn’t turn out as I expected them to. There are so many secrets and lies in this family – things getting brushed under the carpet or done behind closed doors. It made it so difficult to guess what was going on!

So, why only 4 stars? Well, I found Ella’s remarks a bit repetitive at times. But that is the only complaint I have. I picked this up and couldn’t put it down!

Just read this. This book had me gripped from the start. Ella’s (the sister-in-law’s) antics had me actually gasping out loud with the audacity of her! She was a character I really wanted to hate but I was never really allowed to!
I kind of guessed the end but I REALLY wanted it to continue! I wanted to know what happened next and where everyone went from “there”.
    A thoroughly enjoyable read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
