Carlos the Ant (Michael Gresham Legal Thrillers)

£3.80

Gresham’s toughest case yet…

An upstanding citizen, Carlos puts in his 40 hours a week, pays his taxes and loves his family. But when his daughter gets sick and the only treatment that will save her is far beyond his means, he does the only thing he can think of.

He robs banks.

The money comes in, but so does unwanted help from the criminal underworld and soon it’s all out of control.

Facing armed robbery charges and a prosecution lawyer who wants to stick a needle in his arm and watch him die, Carlos turns to Michael Gresham.

Gresham’s first target is the prosecution. She plays ruthless, but he knows there’s a dark secret somewhere beneath that façade.

Bank robberies, courtroom drama and unexpected turns fill this page-turning legal thriller from million-selling John Ellsworth.

Somewhere between books 3 and 4 a lot seems to have happened in Gresham’s private life that I seem to have missed. More to the point somewhere between the same two books the author seems to have lost the plot. This book, and the basis of it, is ridiculous and defies belief throughout. This is a shame because the early books in the series are really very good and immensely readable with sympathetic characters. This book is neither.

Not as good as his usual stories a little predictable.

Jon should live a long life and bring out books at an ever faster pace. I vote him author of the century even though it is still in its teens and I will be dead beyond a reasonable doubt when it ends. I swallow 4-5 books a week; no internet, no social media, no TV, no radio. And I’ve probably read books of just about every author in the last century. And he beats them all in my opinion. No cheating like so many authors do by making things mysterious by keeping information from the readers, instead of the readers unravelling the mystery along with the characters. And a seamless blend of crime, justice, injustice, good character traits, loyalty and kindness that knows no bounds. Books that draw you in but don’t hold you hostage with unrealistic wild twists. The perfect read.

A really gripping book from a great author. This is the 4th book in the Michael Gresham series and it is just as excellent as the the previous books. An excellent read and difficult to put down. .

Gave up with this one. Started off okay then went downhill and couldn’t believe it was the same story or even the same author
