Since being a young boy and going to the library to get Asterix books I have always enjoyed them.
Since the new artists have taken over I would say it has been a mixed bag so far.
This was a real treat the illustrations are spot on as always and the story is great.
I smiled the whole way through and laughed out loud several times.
Great throwback references for the diehard fan of Asterix, wrapped in a great story. I think this is my favourite from the recent additions.
Seeing my son read them now as well is a wonderful thing, the world may change but “the small village full of indomitable Gauls are still there making us laugh”
Five stars and I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Firstly, what’s this volume about? Asterix and co take on a Roman who speaks like those inspirational/motivational posters so beloved by office managers.

Usual formulaic approach here, but there’s just no humour in the very thin story line. There are references to former stories, and the pirates make a brief appearance.

Then there’s a host of ‘continuity’ mistakes. Getafix the druid is variously called Getafix, and in other frames Panoramix (his French name). Cacofonix, the village bard, has become Cacophonix. Caesar, whose appearance is a staple throughout the stories suddenly looks very different.

If they can’t get these basics right, they should stop watering Goscinny and Uderzo’s legacy down. As much as I love Asterix and Obelix I have to say that the series should have stopped when Uderzo retired. Some of the stories post 2009 have been okayish, but since Uderzo’s death the books have been dire. A case of a corporate squeeze every penny we can from the product, whilst systematically destroying the product at the same time.

Looks vaguely like an Asterix book, but this is not an Asterix book. Even if you are an Asterix completist, I would strongly recommend that you don’t bother.

    Woeful.

This album is amazing and much better than the last one. I love the puns and satire. It’s funny. The storyline is nice. Didier is doing great with the artwork since he started. I hope that Fabcaro continues writing.

This is the first of the post-Goscinny/Uderzo books that I’ve read – and I loved it. The humour, the gentle satire – the fantastic artwork. Let’s hope that Fabcaro and Conrad’s next is just as good.

I keep buying the new instalments in Asterix and Obelix’s saga, trying to find just a hint of Goscinny’s brilliant humor, but alas, the new writers don’t have any. It looks the same (the illustrator does a good job), but it’s nothing like the original.
I will stop. You should too, to avoid any more embarrassments. Let the mighty Gauls rest for God’s sake. It’s time …

Loved it, not the strongest story but some lol moments, it feels fresh and it is as beautifully illustrated as ever 🙂
