I bought the 5th edition of this book.

He recommends surgery when it is not required.

The book I have has no references whatsoever. The book reads like a collection of personal opinions.

I suggest if you have an injury, look at the science. Look for people who specialise in the area you are injured and who rely on peer reviewed publications.

A great publication for the average runner to get easy to understand information on the more common injuries prevalent in day to day training/running/racing.In many instances the cause is simple and easily solved with the advice provided in the book.In more serious cases the reference is to the trained professional.Overall a great read and,a ready reference manual.

I bought this book as I had bought the original edition some years ago and thought it wise to update my copy. Unfortunately I wasn’t wise enough to look at the “new” version before buying it. Apart from design and layout changes there is actually very little content that is new. Indeed much of the injury advice is clearly cut and pasted from the original. I accept that if the advice hasn’t changed in the passing years why update it, but I do feel somewhat short changed here. Having said that, I still consider it a useful additional to my bookshelves, although of course you should get your injury diagnosed by a professional (physiotherapist not your GP!) first.

Fantastic book. Can’t recommend enough to help you rehab after not only sports injuries but any kind of musculoskeletal problem.
