This is a clearly written and intelligently written book that can help to teach children, even from ages 11 or 12, about how advertisements work. The text also gives a very clear exposition of the history of media. The author has wide experience in media and the writing and accompanying illustrations make the book very accessible for young people. This is a wonderful text for teaching media to children from Grade Five and upwards, with the primary focus on the role of advertisements in the sea of media that surrounds, informs and persuades us.
The book, to my knowledge, contains no errors or exaggerations and contains many important ideas and insights. Although such a book might get bogged down in statistics, this is not the case here. The text reads well, and the author sustains a strong and compelling narrative thread in each chapter.
I would highly recommend this book for the school room, library or home.

A really comprehensive book on advertising for kids, probably best for age 8-14 interns of readability and comprehension of the content. 155 pages of detail at a child’s level and really appreciated that it kind of explained how advertising kind of “tricks” you into buying something even when you don’t want it! I was REALLY impressed with this book. I bought it for my 8 year old so it was surprisingly enlightening for him but now we’ve read through some parts of it he is noticing things and applying things he read in the book – probably for KS4 onwards but not out of the range of a KS3 child if they are good at reading and comprehension. Well done to the Author, I’ll be interested to see if she has other books.
