Related directly to nursing and healthcare but linked to wider society this book is an outstanding and much needed book.
It provides up to date succinct and simple, (but not simplistic) definitions of all key terms and relates them to nursing and healthcare. It provides references and evidence to back meanings and assertions. It explains and contextualises inequalities of health and directs to further relevant reading. It links all to the NMC Code (NMC, 2018).
Bias, prejudice, race, ethnicity, stereotyping, discrimination, intersectionality, diversity and the determinants of health. All are explained clearly and given a useful context.
Excellent chapters on cultural competency, spirituality in death and dying plus public health as well as an up to date chapter on mental health and diversity are present. Also Brathwaite has combined with Seray-Wurie to relate the themes to actually assessing a patient with, for example cyanosis and darker skin tones (p105).

A relatively slender (215 pages) yet wide-ranging text that combines practicality and accessibility with a scholarly nature.
