‘A masterpiece. On behalf of everyone grappling to understand their unique brains, thank you! Truly life changing’ Alex Partridge, host of ADHD Chatter and bestselling author of Now It All Makes Sense
What is it like to experience both Autism and ADHD?
You’ve probably heard of Autism or ADHD by now. Often thought of as contradictory conditions, much of the discourse around both focuses on their neurological differences. But what about those diagnosed with both? Where do the two conditions intersect and overlap?
Explaining AuDHD is a straight-talking guide for those trying to understand Autism and ADHD as a combined diagnosis. Using real-life stories of people living with AuDHD, this book offers advice for those grappling with a diagnosis, and provides a framework for readers to advocate for themselves and discuss it with loved ones.
Written in accessible prose by Autism and ADHD expert Dr Khurram Sadiq, Explaining AuDHD is a vital resource for anyone questioning their own neurodiversity, undergoing assessment, or making sense of their recent diagnosis..
‘This is going to be a game changer for so many people in the best way’ Ruth Liptrot, Channel Five News

As a counsellor working with with ASC, ADHD and AuDHD, this is an essential read. It explains in a reader friendly way about both conditions and what you might see in the interplay between the two. I would highly recommend this for anyone with any connections to these conditions, whether personal or professional. This provides much-needed information and understanding. Just excellent.

A truly helpful book from start to finish. There are many good resources on ADHD and Autism separately, but this book deals with the overlaps and interactions of both in a systematic and helpful way. If you are, suspect you are, or know someone who is AuDHD, this is an ideal book to buy.

I have read few chapters of this book so far, it captures the reader so well and many times felt like the writer is reading it to me. Very easy to read with lived experiences which make it easy to understand too. Worth a read, enjoying it.

This is a first of its kind narrative about the push and pull of ASD and ADHD, the two once considered mutually exclusive. Yet, since they were recognised as possibly co-occuring, the expertise required to take stories and weave them into comparable narratives has not come around, I feel, until this book. The ‘order and anarchy’, as he states, comes from the witnessed struggles of Dr Sadiq’s late father, in whose passing came retrospection and introspection, and thought to discussion and discussion into this incredible literature. Because, surely, a push and pull on the heartstrings is what makes a symphony.

This book is absolutely phenomenal. It helped broaden my understanding of both autism and ADHD in ways I never expected. The insights are not only informative but also deeply compassionate and practical. Whether you’re a parent, educator, healthcare professional, or just someone wanting to learn more, this book is a must-read. It challenged my assumptions and gave me a much richer perspective. Highly recommend!!

Thank you for this book that explains very clearly the differences between ADHD and ASD and how the overlap between the two conditions could manifest in real people’s lives.
The debate about whether to recognize AuDHD as a separate diagnosis or to establish an ADHD-ASD spectrum based on scientific data was very interesting.
The only thing I regret are the numerous repetitions across the book.
