He thought it was his dream job. Until it turned into his worst nightmare. . .
When Mitch McDeere qualified third in his class at Harvard, offers poured in from every law firm in America. Bendini, Lambert and Locke were a small, well-respected firm, but their offer exceeded Mitch’s wildest expectations: a fantastic salary, a new home, and the keys to a brand new BMW.
Except for the mysterious deaths of previous lawyers with the firm. And the FBI investigations. And the secret files.
Mitch soon realises that he’s working for the Mafia’s law firm, and there is no way out – because you do not want this company’s severance package. . .
To survive, he will have to play both sides against each other, and navigate a vast criminal conspiracy that goes higher than he ever imagined.

Brilliantly engaging plot that keeps the interest of the reader. The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is it feels like bits of the plot are missing and is sometimes difficult to catch up. The interior monologue is lacking in depth and this is a real let down; after all, it’s why we read novels and don’t simply watch the films. We want to know what the characters are thinking. This is something annoyingly absent at crucial times.

Just loved this – I didn’t see the film and 25 years ago when the book first came out…I didn’t have time to do much reading – now I do and I can safely say i will ‘eat’ John Grisham books, just fabulous, so exciting! I will also be looking out for the film to watch!!!

Although I saw the film of this book years ago I disn’t realise how enthralling and exciting the novel would be. So well written and suspenseful I really-for once-couldn’t put this novel down. As I neared the end, I actually slowed my reading periods down, to eke out the remaining pages. I didn’t want it toi end, but paradoxically I thought the final paragraphs seemed an afterthought and disappointing. Maybe the author had just run out of ideas. A pity for such a super novel. A good read!

Good book but took a while to get going

Too long and dated now but an interesting storyline.

This film “The Firm” was released in the 1990’s and I watched it in the cinema at that time. Tom Cruise in the lead gave a very enthusiastic performance and I enjoyed the film very much. Recently, John Grisham the author, released a new novel called “The Exchange” and that prompted me to go back and watch “the Firm” again and I thoroughly enjoyed it a second time.
