This painting is an example of one of L.S. Lowry’s famous crowd scenes. The colour palette is unusually light and airy for the artist, with pink and gold-tinged buildings lifting the atmosphere. Lowry said of this painting, ‘To say the truth, I was not thinking very much about the people … They were part of a private beauty that haunted me!’ In his many depictions of north-west England Lowry makes industrial scenes his own, showing how industry had affected the landscape and how the inhabitants of the urban areas lived out their daily lives. Marches, evictions, accident s, illness, relaxation at the park or the fair, going to work, coming out o f school and going to the football match were all subjects for Lowry’s brush or pencil. His works were created in his own unique style, poetic yet not sentimental, compelling, even at times disturbing, but never judgemental.

I’m a great fan of Lowry and his “matchstick men and cats and dogs” and so was looking forward to this puzzle so much. Noting I live in Salford.
But IT DIDN’T START WELL, the print on the box composed of two thirds of full picture so had to buy a poster from the local shop to understand the scope of the puzzle. Secondly, and this really got to me, there were four pieces missing. It said a 1000 piece puzzle. This is how it was advertised. My partner, and I looked everywhere to find the missing pieces but in vain. Very disappointed. 6 weeks diligent work and for what. What a let down.
But saying that the picture is still cool, lots of black matchstick shapes and lets be honest the only pieces missing were bits of white sky. So it was not all bad.
I still had fun, and loved the challenge, juggling my 4 kids and a wife who spends her days resting on the sofa.

I hadn’t finished this puzzle yet but already know pieces are missing. One of the outside pieces is not there and I suspect it is not the only
Piece. I look forward to starting my next Lowry jigsaw, which arrived on Saturday,but hope it is complete. I will let you know how I get on
and how many pieces are missing altogether from ” GOING TO WORK”.

what a great puzzle, took quite a time but well worth it, now framed and on the wall it was that great.

Ok so whilst a very frustrating jigsaw and really quite hard, it was very satisfying to finally complete after considerably longer than other jigsaws. But imagine our complete frustration at having a middle piece missing but also an outer edge surplus to requirements.

Excellent Jigsaw. My only complaint is the dimensions of the box. Several hundreds of the prices are white or off white. The square nature of the box means you don’t have a decent size picture to study in full. When doing the central bit on the box it is enjoyable as you can study the brush strokes and difference between the paints. Trying to use the small picture in the reverse for the rest is infuriating and unnecessary.

The manufacturer needs to sort out their Quality Assurance…. We went as far as we could with this jigsaw, ending up with 5 pieces missing and 7 or 8 that didn’t have a home. Nothing I can do about it as it’s way outside the period for returns, so my only recourse is to express my dissatisfaction here.
