  • Anselm Kiefer Studios

    04
Danièle Cohn, who has worked alongside Anselm Kiefer for many years, explains the central role the artist&;s studios play in his artistic process. To enter a painter&;s atelier is a rare privilege and the stuff of dreams, as if access to this intimate place were the key to the very act of creation. Entering an atelier allows us to see, in situ, the creative process in action, in the present; we are admitted into the space and virtually participate in the artistic act by our very presence, rather than simply observing from the outside. In this monograph, Danièle Cohn reveals how Anselm Kiefer&;s ateliers&;and his organization and spatial distribution of them&;are essential to his artistic activity as a painter and sculptor. While they serve as production areas and storage spaces, artists&; studios are also physical representations of the mind and memory of an artist, where living and working spaces combine. This book takes the reader on an exploration through Kiefer&;s various ateliers and examines the crucial role they have in the creation of his works. From the attic of a former school or a disused brickyard in Germany, via an atelier in the rural surroundings in the south of France or the urban setting of the Marais in Paris, to his current studio on the outskirts of the French capital, we discover how Anselm Kiefer&;s work spaces have impacted his art.

  • Broken Fingaz

    01
    • The first monograph on the work of the pioneering art collective
    • A must for anyone with an interest in contemporary art and design, street art, or Middle Eastern culture

Over the last two decades Broken Fingaz have won international acclaim, emerging as one of the most dynamic and popular street artists working today.

Emerging from the graffiti scene in Israel in the early 2000s, Broken Fingaz amassed a huge cult following internationally, appreciated for their “colourful and controversial” (BBC) art. Broken Fingaz’s instantly recognisable aesthetic blends high and low brow references, from 1980s punk and Neo-psychedelia to Modernist painting and Erotica.

Their D.I.Y collaborative approach ― a rarity in today’s individualist, fast-paced culture ― has enabled them to create highly ambitious works, in both scale and endeavour, all over the world: from monumental murals and installations, to intensely detailed, award-winning animations, textile works and paintings. They’re also known for the art they’ve created for some of the world’s leading musicians, including Pearl Jam, U2, Blink 182, Beck and more.

This book is their first monograph and is an unprecedented insight into the BF’s innovative and multilayered art practice, with never-seen-before works presented alongside some of their most iconic, as well as personal texts, documents and photographs by the artists reflecting on their journey to date.

The book is designed by celebrated Copenhagen-based studio Claus Due, with texts by Charlotte Jansen. This monograph is a must for anyone with an interest in contemporary art and design, street art, or Middle Eastern culture.

  • Ed Ruscha / Now Then: A Retrospective

Published to accompany the most comprehensive presentation of Ed Ruscha’s work to date, co-organized by The Museum of Modern Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), this catalogue spans 65 years of the artist’s remarkable career and mirrors his own cross-disciplinary approach.

Spanning 65 years of Ed Ruscha’s remarkable career and mirroring his own cross-disciplinary approach, ED RUSCHA / NOW THEN features over 250 works, produced from 1958 to the present, in various mediums―including painting, drawing, prints, film, photography, artist’s books, and Installation. Published to accompany the most comprehensive presentation of the artist’s work to date, and his first solo exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the richly illustrated publication highlights Ruscha’s most acclaimed works alongside lesser-known aspects of his practice. Essays by an interdisciplinary group of contributors examine Ruscha’s work under a new light, beyond the categories traditionally imposed him, to present fresh perspectives on one of the most influential figures in postwar American art. No more a painter or a bookmaker than he is a Pop or a Conceptual artist, Ruscha is a keen observer of our rapidly changing world. Featuring rarely seen paintings and works on paper made early in his career to cross-media multisensory installations, the publication captures the ceaseless reinvention that has defined Ruscha’s prolific, six-decade career.

  • Polarities

‘Polarities’ materialized in the wake of the pandemic when the artist felt its impacts acutely; after months spent in a hospital with COVID19, Parlá’s doctors weren’t sure if he’d ever paint again. But, an artist to his core, he proved them wrong, and the works that came about carry a heightened sense of spirituality and empathy.

More than ever, Parlá sees within his practice the threads that unite us and how our actions (and passivity) become our legacy. A prominent characteristic of his work, the paintings in Polarities share a strong sense of centrum: a heart or prime mover from which bold brushstrokes and elegant lines of script emanate. These marks indicate the beginning of time, the moment from which every passing day and its events have radiated, crashed, and splintered. They are maps and topographies, micro and macro ecosystems.

  • The Time of the Force Majeure: After 45 Years Counterforce Is on the Horizon

This book offers a 21st-century manifesto from the pioneers of the eco-art movement. Since the 1970s Helen and Newton Harrison have been creating art inspired by the earth. They established a worldwide network among biologists, ecologists, architects, urban planners, politicians, and other artists to initiate collaborative dialogues about ideas and solutions which support biodiversity and community development. This definitive survey traces an influential joint career that has lasted nearly half a century. Organized chronologically, it features works from each decade, from their earliest installations to their continent-traversing work of the 1990s; and their most recent works both educating people about global warming and designing large scale responses to the phenomena itself.
