A Nurse of a Certain Age
An Interesting story about life growing up in the 50’s. Life Was so different then, almost easier when compared to today. There was a family friend I spent a lot of time with, I always remember watching her polish her white shoes. She was an emergency room nurse and told me many stories. Thanks to Beverly, I realized I wanted to be a nurse. I loved the school I chose, new friends, classmates and the nurses that taught us, instructors and hospital staff. My hope is you will be enlightened about nurses, understand what we did and why we loved our work. Thankfully most of us were able to retired before the change to managed care.

A Nurse’s Story: My Life in A&E During the Covid Crisis
Moving, honest and inspiring – this is a nurse’s true story of life in a busy A&E department during the Covid-19 crisis.
Working in A&E is a challenging job but nurse Louise Curtis loves it. She was newly qualified as an advanced clinical practitioner, responsible for life or death decisions about the patients she saw, when the unthinkable happened and the country was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. The stress on the NHS was huge and for the first time in her life, the job was going to take a toll on Louise herself.
In A Nurse’s Story she describes what happened next, as the trickle of Covid patients became a flood. And just as tragically, staff in A&E were faced with the effects of lockdown on society. They worried about their regulars, now missing, and saw an increase in domestic abuse victims and suicide attempts as loneliness hit people hard. By turns heartbreaking and heartwarming, this book shines a light on the compassion and dedication of hospital staff during such dark times.
‘An important memoir that we all need to read right now.’ – Closer

A Quiet Mind to Suffer With – Mental Illness, Trauma, and the Death of Christ
Publishers Weekly starred review
“This is a stunning book, so rare and so beautiful. I cannot recommend it highly enough.” –Matthew A. LaPine
Suffering has been made holy by Christ’s proximity to it.
This is the story of Christ’s nearness to my own suffering–my mental breakdown, my journey to the psych ward, my long, slow, painful recovery–and how Christ will use even our agony and despair to turn us into servants and guests of the mercy offered in his gospel.
We cannot answer suffering. And yet suffering demands an answer. If Jesus is the answer to suffering, what kind of answer is Jesus? Everything that could be taken from a person was taken from him. The worst things a person could be made to see and feel were seen and felt by Christ. All of this came to a point in the nails driven into his hands and became a word that cannot be unspoken–his body broken and his blood poured out for us. Suffering has been made holy by Christ’s proximity to it.

A Slice of Fried Gold: Taste my Memories
‘I want to eat everything in this book every single day for the rest of my life’ – James Acaster‘Sweet and funny and weird…as well as genuinely insightful about cooking’ – Hadley Freeman, The Sunday Times
‘As touching as it is delicious’ – The Evening Standard
From Spaced and Hot Fuzz to Paul and Truth Seekers, Nick Frost has lit up our screens for decades with his perfectly observed, just-the-right-side-of-absurd sketches and films. He’s also a keen, self-taught cook: so keen, in fact, that in lockdown, he personally delivered pies to his Instagram followers.
This book is his love letter to food, to kitchens and the people in them.
Nick’s favourite thing to eat aged 10 was his mother’s stroganoff and as her alcoholism worsened, he began to learn to cook it himself, gradually taking over and using it as a magic trick to conjure up the very best bits of her – the stable, sober bits, which became harder to find as the years went on. This was the beginning of a lifelong love of process and technique, of escaping into a world of hisses, blips and thunks of a knife on a board.
A Slice of Fried Gold is a delicious mixture of hearty recipes, stories and digressions from one of Britain’s most loved actors and writers.

A Summary of: Cancer as a Metabolic Disease by Dr. Thomas Seyfried. On the Origin, Management, and Prevention of Cancer
Content 25% of the bookroyalties will be donated to Dr. Seyfrieds research! More information at KetoforCancer.net This book is a summary of Dr. Thomas Seyfrieds book “Cancer as a metabolic disease” and comprises transcripts of his talks and interviews, as well as texts by his collegue Dr. Dominic D’Agostiono and Travis Christofferson (whose foundation will be supported by this book). Here the original Book description: The book addresses controversies related to the origins of cancer and provides solutions to cancer management and prevention. It expands upon Otto Warburg’s well-known theory that all cancer is a disease of energy metabolism. However, Warburg did not link his theory to the “hallmarks of cancer” and thus his theory was discredited. This book aims to provide evidence, through case studies, that cancer is primarily a metabolic disease requring metabolic solutions for its management and prevention. Support for this position is derived from critical assessment of current cancer theories Brain cancer case studies are presented as a proof of principle for metabolic solutions to disease management, but similarities are drawn to other types of cancer, including breast and colon, due to the same cellular mutations that they demonstrate.Read more

A Therapist’s Guide to Treating Eating Disorders in a Social Media Age
All humans need space to think, to be and to process without constant distraction. This is especially true of adolescents and young adults, for whom identity formation is a consuming task. Social media has generated both a place for the creation of identity and an audience. But constant connection leaves little space without intrusion from others. For those with body dissatisfaction and/or eating disorders, living in today’s world can be especially challenging, and viewing images on social media and other online formats can be devastating. Shauna Frisbie utilises phototherapy techniques to view client-selected images (whether they be of themselves or others) to help uncover underlying messages that are impacting their relationship to their bodies. Integrating concepts of healing narratives, neuroscience and phototherapy, this book will help any therapist promote self-compassion, self-reflection and healing in their clients.Read more

A Thriving Mind: A practical guide to developing resilience and positivity in young children
A Thriving Mind is a very practical guide to developing resilience, and positivity in young children, to prepare them for the challenges of life. It supports parents, teachers, mentors, coaches, and anyone working with young children, aged 2-8 years, in understanding and developing mental toughness, through exploring different dimensions of parenting.
The book contains a variety of very accessible, practical tools and development suggestions to support you in understanding and developing self-awareness, for yourself and your child. In conjunction with the remarkably well evidenced mental toughness concept, which explores how individual’s respond to events mentally, that (usually invisible) aspect of our personality.
The book addresses the issues commonly reported by parents, as being areas of concern or challenge in terms of understanding and supporting their children. These include dealing with children’s attitudes, psychological safety and emotional well-being, behaviours, peer relationships, co-regulation and escalation, as well as dealing with trauma, adversity and loss. It also responds to a demand from more enlightened educators, committed to providing a more holistic education, to those in their charge.
The contributing authors have brought together, their vast array of expertise and knowledge of early years development, to facilitate the learning and growth of parents, teachers and the like. Here we bring together their views, to present how these areas of concern relate to mental toughness, as well as how understanding your mental toughness as a parent, and your child’s, can help in addressing some of these issues.

Adjusting to Brain Injury: Reflections from Survivors, Family Members and Clinicians (After Brain Injury: Survivor Stories)
This important book in the After Brain Injury: Survivor Stories Series tells the story of four people who suffered acquired brain injuries: Karl Hargreaves and Ashraf Sheikh as a result of road traffic accidents, Lisa Summerill because of a stroke and Meg Archer as a result of meningitis.
Each person tells their story in their own words, describing what happened to them, how they dealt with it and how they experienced the recovery process. The cases represent very different types of people and severity of injury but are alike in providing raw accounts of the challenges faced whilst also highlighting their resilience and determination to carve out new lives. Alongside these inspirational stories are contributions by friends and family, as well as several members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to give a broader view of the whole process of recovery. By combining expert commentary with real life experiences, this book points towards sources of support, normalises the experience and provides a context for understanding the challenges and successes in each case.
This book provides support, understanding and hope for patients who have suffered a brain injury. It is valuable reading for any professional involved in neurorehabilitation and students of clinical neuropsychology.
