Man’s Search For Meaning: The classic tribute to hope from the Holocaust
16 MILLION COPIES SOLD
‘A book to read, to cherish, to debate, and one that will ultimately keep the memories of the victims alive’ John Boyne, author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
A prominent Viennese psychiatrist before the war, Viktor Frankl was uniquely able to observe the way that both he and others in Auschwitz coped (or didn’t) with the experience. He noticed that it was the men who comforted others and who gave away their last piece of bread who survived the longest – and who offered proof that everything can be taken away from us except the ability to choose our attitude in any given set of circumstances. The sort of person the concentration camp prisoner became was the result of an inner decision and not of camp influences alone. Frankl came to believe man’s deepest desire is to search for meaning and purpose. This outstanding work offers us all a way to transcend suffering and find significance in the art of living.

Endure: Mind, Body and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance
‘This book is AMAZING!’ – MALCOLM GLADWELL
‘If you want to gain insight into the mind of great athletes, adventurers, and peak performers then prepare to be enthralled by Alex Hutchinson’s Endure.’ – BEAR GRYLLS
How high or far or fast can humans go? And what about individual potential: what defines a person’s limits? From running a two-hour marathon to summiting Mount Everest, we’re fascinated by the extremes of human endurance, constantly testing both our physical and psychological limits.
In Endure Alex Hutchinson, Ph.D., reveals why our individual limits may be determined as much by our head and heart, as by our muscles. He presents an overview of science’s search for understanding human fatigue, from crude experiments with electricity and frogs’ legs to sophisticated brain imaging technology. Going beyond the traditional mechanical view of human limits, he instead argues that a key element in endurance is how the brain responds to distress signals―whether heat, or cold, or muscles screaming with lactic acid―and reveals that we can train to improve brain response.
An elite distance runner himself, Hutchinson takes us to the forefront of the new sports psychology – brain electrode jolts, computer-based training, subliminal messaging – and presents startling new discoveries enhancing the performance of athletes today, showing us how anyone can utilize these tactics to bolster their own performance – and get the most out of their bodies.

Things that annoy me by Ruby Brady: Comic diary of a modern teenager dealing with her annoying parents (Ruby Brady Diaries)

Ruby Brady is a typical modern teenager, surgically attached to her mobile phone, who is attempting to navigate her way through a social media-dominated world .. and she has plenty to be annoyed about. … She has a mother going through a spiritual awakening, endlessly searching for inner peace whilst counting down the hours to wine o’clock, and endlessly comparing her life to others on the internet. There is her hipster-hating stepdad, who constantly rants about millennials and vegans whilst harbouring delusions of rock stardom. Ruby’s journal follows her day-to-day life over 18 months starting in 2017, in a political landscape defined by Brexit and Trump. She faces the complexities of home life, friendships and school and attempts to understand her embarrassing parents and explain the modern world to her grandparents. A very lighthearted look at modern life in a time of Facebook, Instagram and Reality TV. It follows three generations of a family, as they all try to understand each other’s language use, interests and differences, all seen through the eyes of a teenage girl.Read more

Moral Injury: A Handbook for Military Chaplains
Moral Injury (MI) is a term used to describe a constellation of persistent symptoms that result from transgressing moral and ethical boundaries. This is a condition that often occurs in the setting of severe trauma, affecting the perpetrator, the observer, the victim, or all three. MI involves painful and often disabling emotions that are manifested by psychological, spiritual, and religious symptoms. There is some overlap in symptoms with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which MI often occurs alongside of — yet there is growing evidence that these two conditions are distinct, both of which need treatment. Failure to recognize this may result in protracted and unsuccessful treatments for PTSD.During combat operations Service Members may be involved in killing other human beings, committing violence to others (including de-humanizing or plundering the enemy), witnessing moral transgressions by others (especially by leaders), being placed in morally compromising positions, being the victim or perpetrator of rape or torture, or exposure to severe trauma of other types. These behaviors are often followed either immediately or sometime afterwards by distressing emotions such as guilt, shame, loss of meaning, difficulty trusting, spiritual struggles, and loss of religious faith, symptoms that may lead to or worsen other mental disorders including depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, and family/relationship problems. As a result, MI is recognized as one of the five stress outcomes noted in the Consensus Recommendation for Common Data Elements for Operational Stress Research and Surveillance report by the U.S. Armed Forces and Veterans Administration (VA) experts. “Case identification” of MI was one of seven core components of the mental health intervention spectrum noted in that report.
We believe that military chaplains are those best suited to address MI among active-duty Service Members, in terms of prevention, identification, and treatment. In this book, we provide information for military chaplains about the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of MI that will be particularly helpful in preparing them for this critical responsibility. We believe that the readiness of our warriors for combat operations is dependent on the role that military chaplains play in this regard. MORAL INJURY: A HANDBOOK FOR MILITARY CHAPLAINS, extensively referenced and scientifically grounded on the latest research, is designed to equip chaplains with the knowledge and tools that they will need to accomplish this mission.

Mind The Gap: The truth about desire and how to futureproof your sex life
‘This book taught me so much about female desire. A must read!’ Cherry Healey
Did you know that there is an orgasm gap of around 30% between heterosexual couples when they have sex?
In Mind The Gap, Dr Karen Gurney, a clinical psychologist and certified psychosexologist, explores not just this gap, but the gaps in our knowledge of so much of the most important new science around sex and desire.
In this book, you will learn that nearly everything that you’ve been led to believe about female sexuality isn’t actually true. And that, despite what you might think, it is possible to simultaneously feel little to no spontaneous desire and have a happy and mutually satisfying sex life long term.
Exploring the mismatch between ideas about sex in our society and what the science tells us, Mind The Gap also explains how this disconnect lies at the root of many of our sexual problems.
Combining science with case studies, practical exercises and tips, this is a book for anyone who wants to better understand the mechanics of desire and futureproof their sex life, for life.

Attached: Are you Anxious, Avoidant or Secure? How the science of adult attachment can help you find – and keep – love
An insightful look at the science behind love, Attached offers readers a road map for building stronger, more fulfilling connections.
‘A groundbreaking book that redefines what it means to be in a relationship.’ – John Gray, PhD., bestselling author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus
Is there a science to love? In this groundbreaking book, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Amir Levine and psychologist Rachel S. F. Heller reveal how an understanding of attachment theory – the most advanced relationship science in existence today – can help us find and sustain love.
Pioneered by psychologist John Bowlby in the 1950s, the field of attachment explains that each of us behaves in relationships in one of three distinct ways:
Anxious people are often preoccupied with their relationships and tend to worry about their partner’s ability to love them back.
Avoidant people equate intimacy with a loss of independence and constantly try to minimize closeness.
Secure people feel comfortable with intimacy and are usually warm and loving.
With fascinating psychological insight, quizzes and case studies, Dr Amir Levine and Rachel Heller help you understand the three attachment styles, identify your own and recognize the styles of others so that you can find compatible partners or improve your existing relationship.

What if you weren’t sexually attracted to anyone?
A growing number of people are identifying as asexual. They aren’t sexually attracted to anyone, and they consider it a sexual orientationlike gay, straight, or bisexual.
Asexuality is the invisible orientation. Most people believe that everyone” wants sex, that everyone” understands what it means to be attracted to other people, and that everyone” wants to date and mate. But that’s where asexual people are left outthey don’t find other people sexually attractive, and if and when they say so, they are very rarely treated as though that’s okay.
When an asexual person comes out, alarming reactions regularly follow; loved ones fear that an asexual person is sick, or psychologically warped, or suffering from abuse. Critics confront asexual people with accusations of following a fad, hiding homosexuality, or making excuses for romantic failures. And all of this contributes to a discouraging master narrative: there is no such thing as asexual.” Being an asexual person is a lie or an illness, and it needs to be fixed.
In The Invisible Orientation, Julie Sondra Decker outlines what asexuality is, counters misconceptions, provides resources, and puts asexual people’s experiences in context as they move through a very sexualized world. It includes information for asexual people to help understand their orientation and what it means for their relationships, as well as tips and facts for those who want to understand their asexual friends and loved ones.

¿Puedo hablar de mi salud mental! (Spanish Edition)

The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge
Rethink your view of the world with The Teachings of Don Juan, the first book in Carlos Castaneda’s spiritual journey into the world of sorcery…
The Teachings of don Juan is the story of Carlos Castaneda’s extraordinary experiences.
In 1960 Carlos Castaneda was a graduate student when he met Don Juan, a Yaqui Indian feared and shunned by the ordinary folk of the American Southwest because of his unnatural powers. During the next five years don Juan’s arcana knowledge led Castaneda into a world of beauty and terror, ruled by concepts far beyond those of Western civilisation.
Using medicinal herbs Castaneda lived through encounters with disembodied spirits, shamans in the form of huge wolves, and death in the shape of silver crows. Finally, after a night of utter terror in which he knew that his life was threatened by forces which he still cannot fully explain, he gave up his struggle to become a ‘Man Of Knowledge’.
‘It gives a different view of the world and challenges the ideas and beliefs that we have be taught, whilst also providing simple methods to changing the way we interact with the world on a day to day basis.’ – 5* Reader Review
