Placement Journal | Student Nurse: An Aid to Learning on Placement
Placement as a Student Nurse is where you learn your craft. It can be exciting, daunting, exhilarating and overwhelming whether you are stepping in to placement for the first time or the umpteenth! As a former Student Nurse, I always used to rely on a trusty notebook for each placement to write down key contact details for the area, the most common conditions encountered in the area and the most common medications used in the area as doing so helped me consolidate my learning and absorb the knowledge I was gaining in clinical practice. However, I could never find a notebook or journal that was specifically tailored to my needs as a Student Nurse going out on placement.
As a Practice Assessor, this method is one I also recommend to Student Nurses and thought it was about time I designed a specific journal which could be widely available for all Student Nurses, not just those who happen to have me as an assessor.
Hope it helps,
Stacey x

Fundamentals of Nursing Care: A Textbook for Students of Nursing and Healthcare
Although care and the process of caring has been a fundamental part of nursing theories and paradigms for many years, there are an increasing number of anecdotal and media stories as well as academic debates that question the extent to which caring is satisfactorily carried out. Fundamentals of Nursing Care is a foundation level pre-registration text that aims to actively address this issue as it focuses on the fundamental principles of caring. The book covers topics such as: interpersonal issues, self and the therapeutic relationship; lay-professional conflicts; user articulation and the caring process; dignity and care; cultural competence and the process of care. The book is set out as a workbook, using narratives that are related to the NMC Essential Skills Clusters. Case studies are used to illustrate key points, and the book has been carefully designed to allow for critical incident analysis, enquiry-based and problem-based learning and reflection. Questions and activities encourage students to deconstruct practice and examine how to further develop competencies. There are also suggestions for additional reading throughout the book in order to support independent learning and enquiry. The book can therefore be used as an independent study tool or as a core text within a particular module. Fundamentals of Nursing Care is aimed primarily at nurses on the Common Foundation Programme, although it may also be suitable for other health and social care professionals on Foundation Degree programmes. The book s jargon-free and easy-to-follow approach means that it is relevant for a wide audience of pre-registration practitioners working in a range of institutional and non-institutional settings (hospitals, hospices, nursing and residential homes, and in community settings). Contents: Chapter 1 Rationale. Introduction to themes and definitions Chapter 2 Definitions What is care? Chapter 3 Interpersonal issues, self and the therapeutic relationship Chapter 4 Lay-professional conflicts Chapter 5 User articulation and the caring process Chapter 6 Dignity and care Chapter 7 Cultural competence and the process of care Chapter 8 The value of caring in 21st Century health and nursing practiceRead more

Tuning Up: Improving performance and reducing stress in advertising and marketing
No musicians worth their salt would ever begin performing without first making sure they’re in tune. But in marketing and advertising we often jump into working relationships without Tuning Up.
In marketing and advertising, Tuning Up means harmonising responsibility and control. But being out of tune is much more painful than the cacophony of ill-prepared musicians. Responsibility without control can cause extreme stress; control without responsibility can create arrogant ogres or benevolent dictators.
But when we have responsibility and corresponding control we can achieve flow; operating to the peak of our capabilities and with greatest satisfaction.
In Tuning Up, we explore how responsibility and control relate to one another, to colleagues, clients and agencies. Using the Meikle Matrix business model, case studies and bizarre and amusing anecdotes, Tuning Up guides us to improving our performance and reducing our stress – leading us to happier and more fulfilling lives in two of the world’s more demanding industries.

High-Ticket For Affiliate Gyms: How To Make An Extra $100,000 This Year By Creating And Selling A Bolt-On Transformation Program
Do you want to make an additional $100,000 this year in your affiliate or box gym? Most gym owners haven’t done the math- selling group memberships at $150 – $250 per month, with a sprinkling of personal training or nutrition coaching, just doesn’t cut it.
When you account for membership churn (attrition), the low-priced volume model is not a mathematically winnable game for 99% of gym owners.
You’ll never have enough profit to adequately pay employees or other companies to do all the work for you- coaching, training, cleaning, marketing, paid ads, etc.
Eventually, you may not want to work in your gym 30-60 hours per week. You may decide that $50,000 – $80,000 profit isn’t enough for you to live the lifestyle you want, and you would rather make $200,000 for your optimal lifestyle.
Your current box gym model will not get you there. The numbers don’t add up.
But there is a way you can make that happen…
Most of your clients aren’t here to work out. Most of them are here because they are unhappy with themselves- and they want to make a change in their lives.
3 hours per week of workouts won’t change anyone’s life. The hardest part is the other 165 hours of the week that they aren’t in your gym. That’s where your client struggles, and that’s what your High-Ticket Transformation Program solves.
You can sell a 9-week High-Ticket Transformation Program, in your box gym, for $2,000 to $8,000. You may be thinking “people in my area can’t afford that”- but you’d be dead wrong.
This book shows you exactly how to do this in ANY market, from Gulfport, MS to Kansas City, MO to Ireland and Abu Dhabi.
Learn how to package, sell, and fulfill your clients’ unmet needs and skyrocket your revenue, profitability, and impact!

The Narrative Gym for Medicine: Introducing the ABT Framework for Medical Communication with Peers, Professionals, and the Public
Communication is central to medicine, yet the COVID-19 pandemic revealed major shortcomings in the communication skills of medical professionals. As the world continues to drown in excess amounts of information (communicated ever more rapidly by social media), the ability to maintain focus becomes increasingly difficult.Enter the ABT.
For more than a decade we have been developing the ABT Framework as both a model for narrative structure and a tool for strengthening what we have termed “narrative intuition.” In this, the 6th version of the Narrative Gym series (following the introductory version, then business, law, politics, and science) we offer up two things: 1) the model, 2) its applications.
Perhaps the most powerful part of the book is chapter 7 where ABT founder Randy Olson teams up with Navid Ghaffari, MD to explain specifically how to apply the ABT within the medical profession. The book is brief, to the point, and most importantly, practical.

End of Mental Illness, The: How Neuroscience Is Transforming Psychiatry and Helping Prevent or Reverse Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Adhd, Addictions, Ptsd, Psychosis, Personality…
New hope for those suffering from conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, addictions, PTSD, ADHD and more.
Though incidence of these conditions is skyrocketing, for the past four decades standard treatment hasn’t much changed, and success rates in treating them have barely improved, either. Meanwhile, the stigma of the “mental illness” label–damaging and devastating on its own–can often prevent sufferers from getting the help they need.Brain specialist and bestselling author Dr. Daniel Amen is on the forefront of a new movement within medicine and related disciplines that aims to change all that. In The End of Mental Illness, Dr. Amen draws on the latest findings of neuroscience to challenge an outdated psychiatric paradigm and help readers take control and improve the health of their own brain, minimizing or reversing conditions that may be preventing them from living a full and emotionally healthy life.
The End of Mental Illness will help you discover:
- Why labeling someone as having a “mental illness” is not only inaccurate but harmful
- Why standard treatment may not have helped you or a loved one–and why diagnosing and treating you based on your symptoms alone so often misses the true cause of those symptoms and results in poor outcomes
- At least 100 simple things you can do yourself to heal your brain and prevent or reverse the problems that are making you feel sad, mad, or bad
- How to identify your “brain type” and what you can do to optimize your particular type
- Where to find the kind of health provider who understands and uses the new paradigm of brain health

Prevention and Rehabilitation of Hamstring Injuries
This innovative book presents the latest insights into hamstring strain injuries (HSI), one of the most common problems in elite and recreational sport, with a unique focus on prevention and rehabilitation. The research within this area has evolved rapidly over the past 10 years and this text offers a comprehensive overview of the recent and most relevant advances. It fills a gap in the literature, since other books focus on muscle injuries in general and their surgical treatment.Structured around the current evidence in the field, it includes sections on functional anatomy and biomechanics; basic muscle physiology in relation to injury and repair; assessment of risk factors; and factors associated with hamstring strains. It also discusses considerations in relation to acute and chronic injuries and hamstring injury prevention, including pre-season and in-season interventions, as well as management strategies and rehabilitation protocols. The final chapter is devoted to additional interventions when conservative rehabilitation and injury prevention fail. Written by renowned experts in the field, this book will be of great interest to sports physiotherapists, sports physicians, physical trainers and coaches.Read more
