I bought this book to give to my 14 year old teenage daughter for Easter. On receiving it I flicked through – there are lots of good chapters, but I was SHOCKED to read in the chapter ‘Who cares if you’re a boy or girl’ these words:
“Throughout the last two thousand years, women have played a massive role in spreading the message of Jesus. Both men and women are called to this work. But a few Christians in each church are called to teach the Bible to the whole church and lead God’s family in that place. These people are often called pastors and elders, and these roles seem to be given in the Bible to qualified men…The fact that men are called to lead local churches also doesn’t mean that men are more important than women.”
As a female Baptist Minister I was horrified that I almost gave this book to my teenage daughter! If you hold the view of the author – that church pastors/elders should be male then this book will be great for you. If on the other hand you are fully supportive of female church leadership then my advice is steer clear of this book before it damages your child’s view of the potential they have to serve Christ as a woman.

Rebecca deals with the questions teenagers and adults are faced with day in day out and it’s been so helpful to consider each one. Thank you ????

As a teen my mind was poisoned over and over again by pseudo ‘intellegent’ answers to hard questions from intellectual sounding books and conference speakers. Let me tell you that in the end you will see your Christian leaders either fail you, lead you astray or build your hopes up to nothing. Your idea of God is a figment of your brainwashed mind and when you really think about it you know I’m right. I would advise a Christian teen to read widely outside of the books recommended by church leadership. You will find an exciting world of honesty, ideas, creativity and real life that will far exceed the narrow Christian experience. Don’t buy this book. Live your own life and have your own mind!

This book is simply incredible. It is excellently written and I as a 30+ year old really enjoyed it! I also read this again but with my 11 year old daughter and she enjoys it too. Highly recommended and I look forward to Rebecca’s next book. I think I’ll be reading all her future books!
