‘I’d get freaked out here, alone in the dark. Wondering what’s lurking at the bottom of the bed, ready to grab your feet.’

Jenny and Sam – and their baby Phoebe – have recently moved into their new home. But something feels frightening and wrong. Very wrong. Over the baby monitor, at 2:22 every night, Jenny hears footsteps around her daughter’s cot. Could the house be haunted?

When their friends Lauren and Ben come round for a housewarming dinner, they drink wine, relive their pasts, and argue about the existence of ghosts. They decide to stay up until 2:22, to discover the truth. Over one adrenaline-filled night – as the foxes scream outside – secrets will emerge and ghosts may appear…Spine-chilling, funny and scary, Danny Robins’ play 2:22 was premiered at the Noël Coward Theatre in London’s West End in August 2021, directed by Matthew Dunster, and starring Lily Allen, Julia Chan, Hadley Fraser and Jake Wood. It provides rich opportunities for any drama group wanting to make things go bump in the night – and their audiences scream.

Well, I was going to say “until they re-stage 2:22, or make a movie/TV version, this is the next best thing”. But the show proved so amazingly successful that it re-opened (in a new theatre, with an all-new cast) within weeks of its original run closing. This is a simple, subtle (A Christmas Carol or horror story it is not) but beautifully written modern play, being little more than four people arguing in a room for a couple of hours, but it was great to re-live the sense of dread that we experienced in the theatre, not knowing what might happen at any moment… Although scarier to see than to read, the script is set out so that it can be read like a story, with no stage directions giving away any of the secrets until the end. I’m going to book my ticket for 2:22-2022 ASAP.

Really wanted to go to London to see this play but thought this would be the next best thing. Really well written, amazing story and characters have a depth beyond the main storyline. Did not see the twist coming!? Highly HIGHLY recommend!

Very well written, but with a “twist” that I saw coming a mile off – probably because I’ve read and seen so many of this type of story. An interesting story nonetheless.

Gripping, suspenseful, I did not see that ending coming. Truly a wonderful play! I would recommend everyone to go watch this. I got goosebumps at the end.

Until recently this production was only really available in London theatres. However I was pleasantly surprised to discover it is now being shown in my home city later this year, tickets already booked. However because at the time the production was not local and I was eager to discover the mystery I purchased the script.

This is a very clever and interesting play. Easy to follow with simplistic but powerful characters. I really wish it was available when I was doing my Drama A level as it would have been brilliant to do.

I highly recommend people see this production.

Hi, Trem here with another fantastic review!
2.22am Written by Danny Robins is pretty damn good and is simplistic in it’s approach but impactful on it’s conclusion. No Spoily Woileys from me of course, but it’s essentially a character study with a 80 minute build and a 10 minute gut punch that will make you think, and then be equally horrified with the payoff…in a good way of course.
This book is written in Theatre Script format with simple but effective stage direction. Lots of questions are asked within the story, some are explained but others are left to linger in the mind for you to ponder.
Also, if you can – go and see the stage show, which is brilliantly performed by our four leads.
