A Dead Man Walking (DCI Logan Crime Thrillers Book 18)
£2.80
A remote Highland castle. A dark and stormy night. A murder most haunting.
It’s Halloween, and when an elderly billionaire is discovered dead in the locked study of his stately Highland home, DCI Jack Logan and his team must race the worsening weather to get to the scene of the crime.
There, among the victim’s extended family and staff, Jack finds no shortage of suspects. Everyone, it seems, had reason to want the old man dead, and they all have something to hide.
Cut off from back-up by the worst storm in decades, and with the cast and crew of a TV ghost hunting show seriously cramping his style, Jack’s only chance of solving his latest case is by going back to basics.
But the castle’s residents won’t give him a minute to think.
Not even the dead ones…
Tartan Noir meets Agatha Christie in A Dead Man Walking, the 18th book in the number-one-bestselling DCI Logan Scottish crime fiction series from author, JD Kirk.

Firstly I want to say I am an avid reader of JD Kirk. My heart sank a wee bit when I read the blurb for this one though. Locked door murder mystery in a spooky old castle on Halloween is something I’d normally avoid, but I gave it a bash and was pleasantly surprised. Jack, Tyler and TJ take the spotlight in this one, with the others taking a back seat but still all popping up now and then. The characters/suspects in the castle are brilliant – that collection of weirdos really made the story complete. This is different from the usual books, but it is number 18 in the series and we can’t expect every book to be the same, nor should we want them to. The reason I liked JD Kirk in the first place was that his books were unique and not like any others at the time, so maybe this is a wee change that he needed and it might change the direction of future books in a positive way. I give it 5 stars because it is an enjoyable read, has hilarious characters and overall it’s a bit of fun.

Investigating the murder of a Billionaire in his castle on the West coast the team get split into three – split between stuck at the castle; Ullapool and base in Inverness.
The team stuck at the castle spend Halloween with a group of interesting people – one of whom must be the murderer!!!!!!
The book like the rest of the series includes laughs and emotional bits along the way – with the emphasis on the emotional side more the majority of the books in the series.
Can’t wait where the next book in the series take us.

I’ve read a lot of reviews saying this book lacks the gritty and powerful impact of his previous books and I totally agree however I think that is the whole point I think he took from Agatha Christie and the old murder mysterys and worked them around his usual characters .I loved this book it was in my mind a break with tradition and hewrote a kind of stand alone halloween classic murder book and I for one loved it

A very interesting slant to the usual Logan books. Agatha Christie meets hammer house of horror in a Scottish castle. What more could you ask for …very entertaining with the usual cast of characters and more than average amount of twists in this plot.

I do love the Logan series and have read all the books. Over the series we have got to know and fall in love with the characters. The books, including this one, have so much humour within them. On saying that I did find this book took quite a long time to get going and was really character based for almost the first third. I have found this with a couple of the more recent Logan books. It was still a good read and I enjoyed it. The plot, bring stuck in a castle on Halloween, trying to identifying a murderer was a little stereotypical. This still had me reading fast and I love Hoon and his sister. Can’t wait to read Hoon and his new assistant, ‘Boy Band’ in the next book of Hoon’s series. Probably my lowest Logan mark – 4.25 out of 5.

Took a chance on one of the first books in this series a number of years ago and I’ve enjoyed every one since!
The stories, the characters and the twists just keep coming book after book.
Do yourself a favour and start from the beginning….. They are well worth it!

Another cracker from JD Kirk. No better cast of characters in Scottish Noir! Can’t recommend this series enough and looking forward to the next one.

It’s Halloween and the team get a shout. There has been a death in a castle. Hey it’s a locked room mystery. Storm Agatha is raging, thunder lightening and all that goes with a possible murder in a spooky castle. Logan, Tyler and Tammi-jo are trapped, I’ll let you find out why when you read the book, and have to solve the case. Not easy but this is Logan. Follow the clues and survive Halloween. Nae probs. Have run reading.
