A Different Way to Learn: Neurodiversity and Self-Directed Education
£14.20
‘If you are a parent worrying whether self-directed education will work for your child, because you have been told that they have special needs which can only be met in the school system – think again’
Neurodivergent children experience and interact with the world differently to many of their peers. Standard educational systems often fail to adapt to their unique strengths and ways of learning. School, and even the act of learning, can become a source of great anxiety and trauma. Self-directed education offers an alternative to traditional schools that can help neurodivergent children develop at their own pace and thrive.
Blending theory, practical advice and lived experience, clinical psychologist Naomi Fisher introduces the world of self-directed learning and tailoring the learning environment to your child.
This comprehensive overview of self-directed learning is packed with ideas on how to implement it at home and includes interviews from parents of neurodivergent children on how you can make learning differently work for you and your child

So thankful for this brilliantly articulated book for when your child doesn’t ‘fit the system’ and a hopeful outlook for an alternative path.

This book is amazing! After months of CAMHs, private therapists, psychiatrists, all manner of services, being very little help and shedding very little insight into what is eating my daughter and how to help her when she can’t articulate what is going on for her, this book is a complete game changer. Where there was no road map of how to navigate this, Naomi Fisher has written this crucial book that reflects very clearly what is going wrong for so many children in our education system and how to help them. Thank you so very much Naomi.

This book has solidified my home education journey decision. With its focus on neuro divergent children, the book challenges the whole education system when it comes to learning.
I’m neurospicy as are my 5 children, 4 of which attended school & are now in their 30s.
With my surprise child at 42 I embraced home schooling after her 3 yrs in school, where she repeatedly came home exhausted, complaining that her heart hurt. She was out when she finished yr2. As a mature mum, I’d done the schooling fights over my lad who has ADHD. The whole school experience messed him.up, I wasn’t going to do this again!. Anyhow, this book has validated my child led approach, it really does work!

I promise you will feel better, more informed, more equipped and more “seen” with what you’re facing at home. Thanks Naomi and Eliza ???? An army of kids and parents owe you our sanity and thanks

A brilliant book that answered all my questions and more about Autistic PDA boy with school based trauma, anxiety through the roof and no school place. The peace of mind after reading this book can not be underestimated. Our boy is coming back to us. Letting him create his safe space and giving him time to recover and find himself again whilst doing his own thing. He’s taught himself the Russian alphabet between Super Mario games and he uses Google Translate for Translating Japanese gaming instructions. We didn’t know he loves languages but we do now ❤️

This book came along at the right time for me and my family. It’s made us understand our child better and what they need. So much so we will be keeping our daughter home and embarking on our own self directed learning journey. I feel so positive about finding a way for my daughter to heal and thrive now. There is another way.
