A Funny Life: The Sunday Times Bestseller

£0.90

The Sunday Times top 10 bestseller.

Laugh along with Michael McIntyre as he lifts the curtain on his life in his revealing autobiography.

Michael’s first book ended with his big break at the 2006 Royal Variety Performance. Waking up the next morning in the tiny rented flat he shared with his wife Kitty and their one-year-old son, he was beyond excited about the new glamorous world of show business. Unfortunately, he was also clueless . . .

In A Funny Life, Michael honestly and hilariously shares the highs and the lows of his rise to the top and desperate attempts to stay there. It’s all here, from his disastrous panel show appearances to his hit TV shows, from mistakenly thinking he’d be a good chat show host and talent judge, to finding fame and fortune beyond his wildest dreams and becoming the biggest-selling comedian in the world. Along the way he opens his man drawer, narrowly avoids disaster when his trousers fall down in front of three policemen and learns the hard way why he should always listen to his wife.

Michael has had a silly life, a stressful life, sometimes a moving and touching life, but always A Funny Life.

Breath of fresh air! Real life with laughter what more could be asked!

For someone who self proclaims he needs the story to be about himself Michael is funny, poignant and self effacing!

This is an honest, touching and at the same time funny account of Michael’s life and career so far. Just as interesting as his f first book. It is reassuring to know that he is so well grounded. His observations of every day life and all it’s quirks are what makes him so funny because he relates to all of us in some way.

Michael McIntyre brings this wonderful autobiography to life with the kindle version that has his voice on the audio version. His incredible talent for voices and acting the character of a person brought this book, his story, totally to life, in a way that made me desperate to meet and know these people myself. The voice and acting of his agent Addison not only made me feel my life was lesser for never knowing the man, but also made me feel so happy whenever he turned up or rang up. Everything he said and did was Gold!
This audio book has made me realise several things. 1. Michael’s vocation is in doing audio books. As well as his comedy of course! He completely brings the story and characters to life.
    2. Michael should be testing out acting in films. In fact Michael if the comedy and light entertainment world ever becomes too much for you, trust me when i say, you can act boy!!
    3. For Michael to bring a character to life so much that in the audio book that you feel you love the guy and you can’t wait to see what he says and does next, is just beautiful. In fact Michael does this with several of the wonderful people in his life, who he depicted so fabulously.
    4. Michael’s honesty in his autobiography is very endearing. After reading this book (or rather listening to Michael reading) i feel now i will always know him better and always be rooting for him in whatever he does in life.
    5. I highly recommend doing the audio version with Michael reading, above reading it yourself. I KNOW, the characters would not have been the same without his intimate knowledge of them and fabulous acting, voice mimicking etc.
    6. Finally, Michael if Kitty is reading this review to you. It is ok, you can open your eyes now. It is all good.
I listened to your book in 2 days. My ears couldn’t put it down.
    Just beautiful!!

What a brilliant book and the most down to earth, sincere and humble gentleman I have read about, and this book is just as good as his first book, absolutely fantastic. Thank you Michael for just being you…..”Simply the Best” comes to mind (RIP Tina) but you Michael make my life much happier by writing your books. Love and kind thoughts to you and your family, and RIP Mr Addison.

I am biased because I absolutely love Michael, I laughed out loud many times reading this and honestly I was shocked at how much he struggled over the years with money and his rise to the top. He honestly made me love him more! Brilliant read if you like autobiographies

I finished this book with mixed feelings about the author. I’ll readily admit he is not my favourite comedian. However, I’d enjoyed his first book so decided to give this a go.

It amazed me that he openly admits that he’s never read a book in his life and doesn’t enjoy reading. How can you hope to write a decent book if that’s the case? Like many of the average Saturday Night TV shows he’s on, is this just an opportunity to cash in?

The book is quite interesting though as it charts his progress from regular employment, through the comedy scene and into the mainstream media.

He seemingly owes a lot to his agent Addison Creswell (now we know who to blame) and writes about him in a fair but affectionate manner.

I’m sure if you’re a fan you’d enjoy this but in my opinion like his stand up and TV shows I feel it’s overrated and overhyped.
