A Royal Visit to Victory Street: A heartbreaking and utterly gripping family saga (The Bryant Sisters Book 5)

£2.80

From Amazon charts bestseller Pam Howes comes an emotional and uplifting saga about the power of family and a community trying to rebuild their lives after the terrible war that nearly destroyed everything…

1956, Liverpool. With the shadow of the war looming over them and bomb craters littering the surrounding streets, hope feels far away for the residents of Victory Street. When they learn that the Queen has chosen to visit them on a tour of Liverpool, the delighted neighbours bring back the wartime spirit. Can they possibly get the street ready in time?

Even a royal visit cannot take away Bella Harrison’s worries. Her son, fourteen-year-old Levi, has just told her he wants to move to America to join the rest of his father’s family. The news has so shocked Bella that she’s not sure she’ll be able to sing for the Queen, jeopardising all their plans for the big day.

Life has been hard for Levi, growing up as a mixed-race boy in Liverpool, but he’s the light of Bella’s life. The thought of losing him brings back the terrible memories of her father and sister dying during the war. If everyone pulls together to make the Queen’s visit an unforgettable celebration, perhaps she can persuade Levi that Victory Street is where he belongs.

But when Levi receives heartbreaking news from America and his move becomes uncertain, Bella starts to wonder if all her efforts to keep him in Liverpool have been for the right reasons. Can Bella find it in herself to sing for the big celebration, and make the right choice for her beloved son?

A totally unputdownable, heart-wrenching historical novel, packed with family secrets, perfect for fans of Dilly Court, Diney Costeloe and Nancy Revell.

A story of joy and sadness that takes you along with it. It definitely pulls on the heartstrings with all the emotional storylines. A brilliant story following on from its four predecessors that are all as equally wonderful. I’ve loved following the lives of the Bryant sisters and this one has had me reaching for my hankies throughout the book.

    Well done Pam

We join the families on Victory street to share their excitement after discovering that their street has been chosen as part of the royal visit. This helps to pull the community together as they get busy planning for the event with Mary at the helm. Hopefully she will get the recognition she deserves!
The Bryant sisters play their part by performing some old favourites, their younger family members and friends join them.
It was quite refreshing to hear from some of the old favourites in this series, Mary and Basil.
Look forward to reading more about the young ones in future books.

Great carry on from the first 4 books following all the musical families, disappointed that the last 15% of the book was extracts from the first 4 books, appears like the author extended the page quantity to make it look like you would be getting a decent book to read, would have preferred more content not repeats, get enough repeats on tv, don’t need them in books too, would have been better if it was a chapter or two from the next book in the series if there is one or maybe the start of another collection.

Loved this book, the residents of Victory street met the new Queen and Prince Philip and put on a street party.
Also John Lennon and how he was a young musician playing at a fete.
Another lovely book in the series

From start to finish the series has been a good read, detailing the realistic struggles of families, pre, during and post war Liverpool.

Loved the 50s era, I was a child growing up. Loved the warmth and friendliness portrayed in the story. I have now read the whole series and hope there will be more!
