‘Tis the time of year when I feel I have to read Christmassy romance novels (definitely not my kind of reading normally).
In this one Lottie is enjoying her job as events manager for a beautiful country house in the Lake District. It helps her recover from being dumped by her boyfriend and the worries over her sister’s health. And there’s the added attraction of hunky estate manager, Jay.
Then the hotel gets a commission to host a lavish Christmas wedding – exactly the kind of event they need to put them on the map. Except the groom turns out to be her scarpering ex.
It’s a whole book of people hiding secrets, having trust issues, and dancing around their feelings.
It is definitely full of all the things I wanted from a Christmassy novel – beautiful country villages lovingly described, snow, fir trees, sparkling decorations, reindeers, Christmas food and drink. On the other hand, I didn’t really take to Lottie and Jay, I didn’t dislike them, just found it hard to care and wasn’t sorry to wave them goodbye.

When Lottie’s fiance Connor walks out on her a few days after proposing Lottie is devastated.
One year later she is in a new job as Events Manager at Firholme, a beautiful estate in the Lake District. With a cottage in the grounds and hunky head groundskeeper Jay living next door Lottie is happy and ready to move on.
When she is asked to organise a Christmas wedding at very short notice she relishes the challenge, until she meets the groom, Connor.
Knowing the wedding could really help put Firholme on the map, Lottie puts aside her reservations and throws herself into organising it.
But the groom is keeping secrets from the bride and Lottie is faced with feelings she thought were long gone. Can Lottie keep the wedding on track and have herself a Merry Christmas or is she destined to lose everything again.
Good relatable characters, beautiful scenery, what’s not to love?

I really enjoyed reading this book about Lottie and Jay. Jay wanted to ignore Christmas as he had the most terrible Christmas the year before. Lottie had to plan a wedding and to her shock it was for the man she was engaged to albeit briefly. Jay and Lottie finally enjoyed Christmas together and found love with each other.

Phillipa Ashley does not disappoint with her latest festive read. In this novel, we are in the beautiful and picturesque countryside of the Lake District. Ashley has a unique talent for sweeping you away from the glum weather and spiralling news and taking you to a place of tranquillity and relaxation, as ever with a compelling storyline with likable and relatable characters. Not to mention a loyal dog bustling by the romantic lead’s side..
Lottie is rebuilding her life after a humiliating break-up and a traumatic year supporting her beloved sister through cancer treatment. Connor has had a bad year as well and is hiding in the wild grounds of the estate where Lottie works as a wedding planner and avoiding his family at all costs. This isn’t just a romance but also celebrates the importance of family especially at Christmas. Sit and enjoy with your favourite tub of assorted chocolates, a pack of hankies, and a big blanket. It will not fail to get you in the Christmas mood.

I always enjoy books by this author, mostly those set in Cornwall. This was set in the Lake District so it was a bit different. Lottie is a wedding planner and has recently taken a job in a refurbished hotel. When they receive enquiries about a wedding they are delighted but Lottie could not believe it when her ex fiancee walks in with his new bride to be. This wedding in very important to the owner of the hotel but will Lottie be able to put her feelings aside and make it a wonderful day for the happy couple? I think we could all guess what was going to happen but this did not spoil the story for me. A nice gentle read perfect to while a way a few hours.
