A Year With My Camera, Book 2: The ultimate photography workshop for complete beginners: Volume 2

£23.80

This is Book 2 in a 2 part series. *This book is printed in black and white and designed to be written in – more details below; please read the whole description if you are expecting a coffee-table glossy book.* The two A Year With My Camera workbooks accompany the online course of the same name from Emma Davies. You can complete the course just from the workbooks, but if you want to join the online community, find the details at AYearWithMyCamera.com. This is Book 2 in a 2 part series. This is a practical workbook, PRINTED IN BLACK AND WHITE, designed to be written in and picked up every week – not a coffee table book to put on your shelf and never look at. The course is designed to be finished, and this is not a glamorous, well-finished book, it is a rough-and-ready *work* book – it’s for people who want to finally understand their camera, not just read about it. Be warned – there are plenty of photographs and illustrations, but they are NOT COLOUR and they are not fine art quality. Please use the “Look Inside” feature which is enabled – you can see the workbook nature of the book before you buy, and check it is what you are expecting. Book 2 includes: editing advice, using a tripod, landscape photography, travel photography, macro and how to share images online and in print. Do you need to do Book 1 first? If you can shoot confidently on manual mode, understand how the camera exposes for a mid-grey tone, know how to compose an image and understand how the direction and quality of light affects your image, then you don’t need Book 1.

I’m working my way through part 2 of Emma Davies FREE beginner photography course using this book. You don’t need the books to participate in the course but I prefer a book to take notes. It’s fashioned more like a workbook with instructions and has some little extra projects within. Well worth the money and I highly recommend purchasing both workbooks if possible

This course is excellent, there is no pressure and if you don’t want to use an app for AYWMC you can purchase both books and work at your own pace. I get the emails and have bought the app, I’m unable to keep within the year to finish but having the books means I can do it when I’m ready. It’s also good to have the books to recap. For me the books are the best way to learn.

It starts with the basics but I have even learned things from this.

Emma does an excellent job at pitching this at all levels and experience.

    Enjoying the course immensely.

    Thans Emma.

These Work Books are the Best way of learning how to use your DSLR Camera.
having had such a camera for years and struggled to get to grips with it , a long comes this
excellent product from Emma Davies. I’m only a few weeks into Work Book 1 and already
I’m fully off the Auto Mode and starting to take some greatly improved photographs.
When you consider how much money you’ve spent on all your kit, buying both books and
the planner is a small price to pay.
So BUY the books and see your photography improve as the weeks pass.

Note, this review is mainly to do with the quality of the item’s print and not with the content itself. I haven’t read much of Book 1 and none of this book (Book 2). My criticisms is not with the author or the content in the book, but in how its printed.

My main negatives of this book and its companions are as followed.

The book is really big, with very little content on each page. This is mainly due to the fact that text is far too large. I have bought similar books on photography from other publishers and they have much more information and illustrations on the page. and those books are of similar size or smaller.

The quality of paper is very poor/ very cheap feeling, almost like someone used a house printer to print these pages.
The quality of print is also poor / low resolution, and Black and white. which makes it difficult to see, what the author is describing int the images.

My last point is that this is by far the more expensive set books when compared to similar, books which are cheaper, better and better quality colour prints. At the time of writing this review i purchased all the books below for the prices stated.

    This book
A Year With My Camera, Book 2: The ultimate photography workshop for complete beginners: Volume 2 Paperback -£23.23

    Book 1
A Year With My Camera, Book 1: The ultimate photography workshop for complete beginners: Volume 1 Paperback was £19.37

Digital Photography Complete Course Hardcover – £14

Tony Northrup’s Dslr Book: How to Create Stunning Digital Photography Paperback -£16.36

That said i can’t comment on the content as i have only read a little.

My recommendation is to go for the other books above, until there is a better, cheaper printed version or a kindle version.

I have taken photographs for 50 years but struggled to understand the technical side. Emma explains everything in a clear and simple way. I highly recommend this course to those starting out and to anyone who like me has a mental block over certain aspects of photography.

This is a great book deigned to accompany Emma’s A Year With My Camera online course. It has all the lessons in, plus some extra revision and projects at the end of each module to help reinforce what you have learnt. There is also space to put in the photos from your weekly homework, which is great to look back on and see how far you have come since starting the course. I would highly recommend buying this workbook.

This is a fantastic book, which sets out each stage in a very clear and concise manner. Each chapter is a bite size so you don’t become over whelmed by too much info all at once. Emma Davis is a great teacher and all of the info is based on her own experience of a professional photographer. It is a must to go along side her free photography course A Year With Your Camera, which is just fantastic in itself. Would definitely recommend this book and even more so the course if you want to get to know your camera and how to get off auto 5en this is the. Course and book for you.
