A Second Year With My Camera picks up where the first year ended and takes you, step by step, through a professional curriculum for intermediate photographers. (Search for “A Year With My Camera” if you haven’t done the first year yet it yet and want the complete beginner’s camera course by the same author – the first two workbooks also make a great gift to give anyone who has just got their first big camera.) These workbooks are designed to be written in. They have pages set aside for you to stick your own images in. They are printed in black and white. Do not buy them if you are expecting a coffee table style photo book – they are more like textbooks.
Workbook 4 (this book) includes six monthly projects based on the photography genres of:
– portraits
– events
– action
– macro
– black and white
– doing a “big project”
In addition to the genre project itself, each monthly project also incorporates a technical aspect of photography (such as hyperfocal distance or exposure values), a mindset exercise (such as focussed attention and serendipity) and a printing project (for example printing at home and using ICC profiles).

Great addition to AYWMC 1 & 2. I now have books 3 & 4 which encourage you to explore different genres of photography and advance the skills learnt in the first. The books are text books and all the better for it in my opinion. The course is well supported by an online app and various Facebook groups.
