With expert text by art historian Christopher Masters, each artist’s entry includes a summary of the essential things you need to know about the artist; their biographical details, why they’re so significant, where you can find their works today, and a surprising fact about them plus reproductions of key works.
Whether you’re already an art expert, or looking for a helpful cheat to navigating around a gallery, you’ll love this stunning and intelligent guide to global artists of the modern age.

This made a lovely Christmas present! It contains information and art work by lots of artists.

Quite basic but good as a quick reference.

I have to admit to being a fan of Andy Tuohy’s work prior to buying this book and was glad my high expectations weren’t disappointed. A real design classic and after reading it you wonder why nobody has done it before.
I also enjoyed spotting old favourites as well as being inspired to check out unfamiliart artists, which is easy since the book very helpfully tells you where you can see the work. Have earmarked this for a couple of Christmas presents and look forward to playing ‘name the artist’ from the fabulous designs.

I loved this book. As a study guide or an introduction to modern art for the casual fan this book is wonderful to dip in and out of. Andy’s illustrations are fantastic, really fun and as a snapshot encapsulating an artists’ style, very informative and accurate. I would recommend this book as a great gift idea for the art lover in your life or as a treat for yourself. I would also highly recommend Andy’s follow up book in the same style; A-Z Great Movie Directors. I hope there’s more to come in the series.

I bought this book as a gift for a friend but now I’m going to have to buy another one as I want to keep it !
Andy Tuohy’s pictures are bold, dramatic and really evoke the artist he’s portraying, from Dali’s moustache to Kahlo’s monobrow. I turned straight to my favourite -O’Keeffe. The text is concise – long enough that you actually learn something, but not so much that it’s a bit of an effort to get through it all. A ferfect introduction to artists known and new, and vivid images will really capture the attention of the kids.
Great for all ages.

I love this book, stunning illustrations and a great introduction to the world of modern art in a visual, easy to digest format. The sections on where to see the work are useful too as summer is coming up plus some surprising facts on each artist. A good way to get my kids interested too.
