I stumbled upon this gem while searching for resources to improve my financial knowledge, and it has exceeded my expectations.
I have only just started the book and therefore can’t give a full review, however…
What I appreciate most about this book is its straightforward and approachable writing style. The author does an excellent job of breaking down complex financial concepts into easily understandable terms, making it accessible even to those with little prior knowledge of finance and accounting. I found myself gradually building a solid foundation as I progressed through the chapters.
The practicality of the content is the book’s strongest suit. It doesn’t just bombard you with theoretical information; instead, it emphasizes real-world applications.
I also appreciated the focus on empowerment. The book doesn’t spoon-feed information but rather encourages critical thinking and self-reliance. It equips readers with the knowledge and tools to analyze financial situations independently, which is invaluable in today’s rapidly changing financial landscape.
The organization of the book is well-thought-out, providing a logical flow of topics that build upon each other. It starts with the basics and gradually delves into more advanced concepts, making it easy to follow and retain the information.
In conclusion, this book is a must-read for anyone seeking to improve their financial literacy. It offers a clear and concise guide to finance and accounting, making it an excellent resource.

I’m a finance professional and have to say this book is a thorough guide to anyone looking to gain knowledge in accounting and finance. I love how the author spends time giving the history of finance and accounting and then takes a deep dive into the accounting principle and line-by-line forensics of the P&L metrics from financial terms to COGS right down to the tax line. The quizzes at the end of each chapter are just a bonus to help rubber-stamp your understanding. What a great guide for non-finance managers!

This book is an absolute gem- it exceeded my expectations in every way. As someone with no prior knowledge of finance and accounting, I was initially apprehensive about delving into a subject that seemed complex and intimidating. However, this book proved to be an exceptional guide that made the seemingly daunting world of finance and accounting accessible and even enjoyable.
One of the standout features of this book is its remarkable ability to break down complex financial concepts into simple, easy-to-understand language. The author has a remarkable talent for explaining intricate financial jargon in a way that even a complete novice like me could grasp. The step-by-step approach to each topic, accompanied by real-world examples and practical exercises, helped me gain confidence in my understanding of the fundamentals.

I purchased the book to research one key element of my business – auditing, especially the need for an audit – the business is a not-for-profit. The book arrived, and I immediately scanned the index: Audited Financial Statements (P72) and non-profit (also P72) – there’s a coincidence; except that P72 is blank.
I eventually found the piece about Audited Financial Statements, and it read, ‘Financial statements for non-profit organisations appear similar [to for-profit businesses] but differ slightly’. That statement provides no information whatsoever! There are others throughout the book; I spent less than one hour trying to find useful information – clearly the index was no use – I gave up!
