Accounting in a Nutshell: Accounting for the non-specialist (CIMA Professional Handbook)

£29.40

Designed primarily for middle and junior management who deal with financial information without really understanding the content; students who are studying accounting as a non-specialist subject, for example on a business studies or engineering course. The book serves as a basic reference to be used throughout the course. It will also be particularly helpful in providing the basic grounding that is required before moving on to the more technical and in-depth study of the subject that may be required on some courses. Students who are embarking on a course of study to become a professional accountant will also find this book of major benefit. In addition to revisions through out, a new new chapter ‘Making long-term investment decisions’ covering capital investment decisions, extends and rounds out the final part of the book: using Financial Information to Manage a Business. The chapter deals with the investment appraisal process and covers the main investment appraisal techniques from the point of view of a non-specialist: payback periods, accounting rate of return and discounted cash flow methods are just some of the new topics covered. The focus will be on the level of understanding that a non-specialist requires in the work place as such, in keeping with the rest of the book, the chapter includes practical examples and exercises to enhance the reader’s understanding.

This is not accounting for dummies. It is much more but it pitches it at a leve where it is an easy read for new to accounting folk.

Only thing is that for kindle, it has not been put together so you can manipulate page and text sizes.

Still a must buy for those new to accounting or those who just want to understand it.

I love this book, it has provided me with the confidence to tackle accounts with which I had previously had little exposure too. It is well written and organised and takes you through accounting logically and at a steady pace. This is a must for anyone with little to no knowledge of financial management.

Explains complex accounting aspects ina very clear and easy way. The language used in the book is very easy to comprehend, even for non-native speakers. Information wise it is a great resource to understand different sections within financial and managerial accounting

I am currently taking the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting course and ordered this book for an extra insight into Accounts. I am very happy with this purchase as I believe it is going to be very useful in the coming months!

I found it a relatively easy book to read compared with other accounting books. It is also useful to have a chapter on not-for-profits and also an introduction to management accounts. For those wanting a basic grasp of accounting, this is an excellent source.

Recommended to me by a senior lecturer overseeing a post-grad business directors diploma, this is a well structured book, with clear explanations and relevant self test questions. Whilst it is ‘aimed’ at managers with a non-financial background, I would suggest it is actually RECOMMENDED reading for ALL non-financial managers AND directors. If this is you then my advice is simple – buy it!

This book was recommended by its author who was giving us lectures on accounting.

I will be honest with you. This book made me enjoy a subject that I did not like at all.
Well explained, straight to the point.

Recomend it to anyone taking accounting lectures
