Another great book by Karin Slaughter. Couldn’t put it down. It rounds off the Sarah rape episode perfectly. And Will excepting Amanda as family.

The latest in the Will Trent series and as always, it does not disappoint! I love this series of books and always find them to be real page turners, full of suspense and revelations.

After that night is set in the present but takes us back to Sara’s past, with a story that is worthy of a standalone novel but helps us thread together pieces of the past that we already know about our main characters. The story has some horrific moments in it which can be hard to read, but nothing is in there for no reason – it all adds to the narrative and our understanding of the case. No spoilers but for me the ending was very well written and took me by surprise, which is a pleasant change as all too often ‘twists’ are fairly obvious early on.

Overall an excellent read, and a great continuation of the series!

This is another amazing installment from Karin Slaughter, with all the twists turns you’ve come to expect from her dark (but incredible) brain. Can’t wait for the next one.

Great story, real page turner and this focus on wealth and privilege facilitating predation doesn’t disappoint. Thing I like about Karin Slaughter is really gets into the skin of all her characters, but you never doubt whose side she’s on when describing what happens to women. Her descriptions of depravity can be very graphic and violent – but they are never salacious or gratuitous she tells it like it is. Read how Will and the team (they really are an ensemble) work together to uncover all the angles.
Word: as much as I love Slaughter’s work, I balk at the price of a Kindle book that is higher than many paperbacks – who’s exploiting readers? Is it Amazon, her publisher or both? The callous opportunism is why this doesn’t get 5*

As a piece of text it is a good story that held my attention throughout.
This is Sara looking back at being raped. That Night from the title.
She is made to confront this as she gives evidence in a civil case against the son of doctors who are more than ghosts from her past. And that case unravels.
So we have Sara, Will and Faith going behind the back of their boss to pursue an investigation that forces many others to reveal the existence of a clandestine group organised to carry through rapes with varying involvement including victims.
And, of course, they get Amanda involved officially as the investigation gathers pace.
Not persuaded that a group of very retired colleagues could be utilised because the Atlanta police could not be trusted. But my main niggle on credulity/incredulity was the revelation of the driving force behind Rape Club.
However, by that stage of the book the story was completed and did not detract from what went before.

I love that all her stories have twists and turns, and explanations, and of course, what happens after the thrilling climax! Perfect storytelling, every time.

I was looking forward to reading this book. A great and intriguing story but lacked the brutality/suspense of earlier Will/Sara stories.

Will and Sara – ably abetted by Sara and Amanda revisit Sara’s rape if 15 years before. Is it linked to other more recent rapes?

I’m not sure I totally bought into the whole Rape Club but it was engrossing. What works best for for in this book is the solid and emotional relationships forming between all the characters. Amanda is de facto Will’s mum, Faith is like his sister and Sara has lost that annoying neediness that meant she was forever hurting Will. Sara telling him he has a family all along – was a tear jerker.

I nearly knocked a mark off (slight spoiler alert) – I would far far rather culprits are arrested, charged, tried and imprisoned for a lengthy time (forever?) than being allowed to evade justice with a quick death. It always ruins a story for me and it’s happened a few times with Slaughter’s books. We’re all going to die and some of us won’t get a quick death either. But few of us are going to be shamed in court and sent to a disgusting jail for the rest of our lives. Don’t kill the bad guys!
I am going to deduct a mark for the fact I pre ordered the hardback because I couldn’t wait for the paperback but I see the paperback is out! There are even second hand copiers of the paperbacks out! So I’ll never buy a hardback again. It’s a con.
