Aggressor: (Nick Stone Thriller 8)

£3.80

The Number One Bestselling Thriller from Britain’s original SAS hero.

‘A rollercoaster ride’ Guardian
________

Ex-deniable operator Nick Stone seems to be living his dream, not a care in the world as he steers his camper van round the surfing and parachuting paradise of Australia, a board on the roof, a freefall rig behind him, and a beautiful young backpacker at his side.

But when he sees a news report of the massacre of women and children in a terrorist outrage the other side of the world, long-suppressed memories are triggered, and Nick knows he must risk everything to repay a longstanding debt of friendship.

As events unfold in the bleak, medieval villages of Georgia and teeming streets of modern Istanbul, Nick finds himself catapulted once more into the murky, clandestine world he thought he’d left behind – a world in the grip of nameless enemies who linger in the shadows, and stalk the corridors of power…

Hurtled at breakneck pace through a deadly landscape of greed, violence and ever-shifting allegiances, the reader will be left in no doubt that McNab is the master of the genre – and Aggressor shows McNab at his searing, blockbusting best.

I like the way the author tells the story. Will definitely read more of his books.
Looking forward to finding more of his work

I can’t believe I have skipped over these books for years thinking they would be rubbish. How wrong I was. His writing style makes them very easy to read. He has a very dry wit. Lots of self deprecating humour and quite a bit of laugh out loud moments too. Mixed with horrific descriptions of death and destruction and LOADS of gratuitous violence, they are a thrilling read. There is a lot of very detailed description, but I think that adds to the realism and makes you feel like you are actually there with the character. The basic premise is the same for each book (he gets in the poo then out of it) – but subtle differences, realistic characters and quite a bit of character development of the protagonist allows each book to get better than the last.

This is the ninth McNab book I’ve read and the first that I’ve reviewed.
Aggressor is the most dull and disjointed of the lot and not up to scratch. It definitely had the feeling of being churned out to meet a publisher’s deadline and little of the author’s craft went into it.

I have pre-bought the next two books in the Nick Stone series. If the author doesn’t find his usual form, they will be the last. Three stars is being kind.

Despite being an ex-serviceman myself, I confess to being perhaps overly awestruck by the UK special forces. My awe was appropriately modified after reading Peter Ratcliffe’s ‘The Eye of the Storm’, which is a fact-based, first-hand account of his 25-year experience in the SAS. Well worth reading.

As usual the Nick Stone stories have you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. I find it very hard to put these books down and I became so engrossed in this story whilst on my lunch hour, I failed to notice that 3 and a half hours had passed and my boss casually asked if I intended to do any work this afternoon. I was shocked that my lunch was on the desk as was my coffee and I had been reading from Noon to 3.30 pm. Good job I had a good boss.

This particular storyline was for me slightly disappointing in that l found it somewhat disjointed. I have always enjoyed Andy’s stories and greatly admired his achievements.
