Peter Sykes lifts the lid on the good, the bad and the ugly in the NHS, based on real-life situations from his 40 years experience at the sharp end of medical practice.
Some of these stories will make you laugh, a few will make you cry and others have a surprising twist in the tail.
They feature patients, doctors and nurses, blood, sweat and toil, life and death, heartache and joy.

I only chose this book as an antidote to a most disturbing novel I had just read. This seems a .most ungracious way to start a review but it is the truth. However, this turns out to be an extraordinarily well written and readable book.
The author has written a collection of short stories and while these are fictional, they are obviously based on experience. They are in turns amusing, thought provoking and sad. I can highly recommend this book.

Had to keep reminding myself these are actually fiction but they are very well written and highly interesting stories. Exactly how you expect the experience to be. Not sure I’m keen on how the last story ends like the rest is missing though. Did he die?

I have purchased all of Peter Sykes Books and would definitely recommend them. As an ex NHS employee I found I was able to relate to many of his experiences of how hospital life used to be back in the sixties. Peter also gave a talk at our Versus Arthritis Meeting on his experiences, working as a Consultant Surgeon, with much humour added.

Enjoyed from start to finish, some interesting tales, never a full moment and never two shifts the same, would recommend
