This is a useful reference if you are looking for inspiration in developing coaching sessions. However, as the title suggests, there are not 101 games and relays: there are only 89. Also, many of the games and relays are fairly minor developments of each other and anyone with a small amount of experience would be able to make these developments themselves. Finally, if you’re coaching mini-rugby before kicking and contact, bear in mind that many of the games and drills will be unsuitable or need to be adapted. So yes, it does offer some good ideas but do not let the ‘almost 101’ fool you at all.

Even after doing various rugby courses you do forget drills and this shows and explains lots it helps freshen up training seasons and allows you to build on existing drills would say to any dad / mum thinking of coaching for the first time to look at this but also those coaches that have been doing for some time there’s things in here that you’ll have forgotten or not done so will help.

Having bought the previous book, 101 Rugby Training Drills, I was looking forward to seeing more coaching material from these guys. You will not be disappointed as the new book delivers some great small sided games that once again are easy to set up, follow and most important for the players, fun to do.
Don’t be confused by the cover either, it is great for Rugby Union.

Purchased this book as I am a relatively new rugby union coach and wanted some ideas to make training fun and a bit different. The first half of the book is extremely useful, I think out of the first 51 I would be using about half. After that though tthe relays a virtually all the same and extensions of the same two man relay so I’d say really there are only 52 different drills.
That said there is enough good material to keep you busy and keep training fresh. I’d thoroughly recommend this book for any aspiring or new coach.
