I think this book is fantastic, its hard to put it down once you start it.
Me and my boyfriend have just been approved at panel and wish id have got this book sooner because it opens your eyes on how long the adoption process takes. We had no complications at all and it still took us 15 months to get approved (our local adoption agency told us 8 months). The book says you MUST have patience, this is so true and the best advice for anyone wanting to adopt.
Wonderfully written Maria.

An Adoption Diary provides the reader with a basic understanding of the potential journey ahead with adoption; highlighting the highs and lows of the process and some things to consider that you probably wouldn’t of thought of yourself.
It’s a brilliant and insightful start to thinking about and finding out about adoption; it certainly makes you want to find out more about it.

I bought this book on the cusp of beginning the adoption process wanting to learn from someone who had experienced things first hand, rather than the other more text book style books I have read. What an emotional roller-coaster of a journey this couple had but so very worthwhile in the end. There were a number of times when I found myself nodding in agreement with the author and so many times when this book moved me to tears. A great book, easy to read and I managed it in a few hours.

I identified with Maria James as a prospective adopter and all the rollercoaster of emotions that one goes through on the process.
I am pleased to say that although our son’s placement was a lot more straightforward than the authors situation, I also identified with the joy of finally being a mum!
Couldn’t recommend this more highly!

It opening my eyes to a lot of things that you can go through during the process in a way that others books hadn’t yet. It’s a great read to give you an idea of what you could be facing in your journey. I will deffo recommend!! My husband and I had a lot of talking points after reading.

Very readable though I would have liked to have gone a bit deeper with her son.
