Following on from the success of An Opinionated Guide to East London, Hoxton Mini Press are developing a series of ‘opinionated guides’ to aspects of London, each offering concise, highly-curated, insider selections alongside stunning, original photography. Two expert writers, Sujata Burman and Rosa Bertoli, have joined forces with architectural photographer Taran Wilkhu to create an unashamedly confident guide to the must-see buildings in London, spanning all the architectural styles: from Art Deco to postmodern, brutalist to futuristic. Over 50 buildings are included alongside four maps with guided city walks.

Lovely little book to dip in and out of

I didn’t notice the dimensions so when this arrived it was smaller than expected. You might call it the slightly bigger friend to pocket sized. It’s a thoughtful, well designed and well structured book. I bought for a friend to remind her of her home town (city). I think she’ll love it as it’s different and quirky.

The book consists of a series of short essays on various buildings of all styles and locations throughout the capital. Each building is illustrated with at least one photograph (the photography in this book is beautiful).
Highly recommended for anyone who loves architecture, London or both.

Some good and useful photos. A good addition to a walk focused on the buildings shown. Information given could be more detailed. Probably the best in this series of books. (The one on London’s open spaces being particularly poor)

This was pretty useful for my trip to London.
Found a few gems in it that weren’t on other guides.

Despite the fact that there are dozens of books about London, this particular new and fresh publication is unique because it is well produced, compact and reasonably priced. Above all, it is written and illustrated with care and passion. The selection of buildings covers different periods of architecture with examples of building much beloved by architects and the general public. Go for it!
