£1.90

‘Tis the season for gold, frankincense and murder…

It’s winter in the small town of Dewstow, and Margery is preparing for her first Christmas as Summerview school’s kitchen manager. She’s supported by her wife, Clementine, and is trying to stay focused on the task at hand.

The pair are determined to stay out of the way of the Christmas concert planning that has gripped the rest of the staff. However, they are caught in the crossfire when the stage lights collapse at the first practice, killing Mrs Large, the music teacher.

Mrs Smith, the Head of Drama, is the prime suspect and is desperate for the Dinner Lady Detectives to clear her name. Mrs Smith is convinced that it’s sabotage by her rival, Mrs Blossom, the drama teacher at Ittonvale Secondary, but there’s evidence that points to her own misdeeds. Can Margery and Clementine trust their friend? And when things start to heat up in the kitchen, will they make it out in time?

A charming and festive British village mystery, perfect for fans of Robert Thorogood and Fiona Leitch.

Title : An Unfortunate Christmas Murder @hannahhendywrites
    Publisher: @canelo_co
    Format Read : Physical
    Pages : 308
    Star Rating : ????????????????

I have to admit @hannahhendywrites is a totally new author to me. I attended the @tandemcollectiveuk festive party in december where some fabulous authors attended and when Hannah read an extract from this book i knew it was a book for me. I was kindly gifted this book by @emlousbooks for christmas so thanks for a super book Emma.
This is Hannah’s second book in the dinner detective ladies series but i felt extremely comfortable reading this as a standalone read and as book 3 will be on the out soon im super excited to follow more of their adventures.
This cosy murder mystery is based in the UK. As Hannah is a professional chef herself you can really see how detailed the book is on the day to day workings of a school kitchen and canteen environment.
Two of the main characters Margery and Clementine are married so aswell as working together in the kitchen we also get to learn about their daily adventures. They are two extremely funny and curious characters and they are willing to do everything in their powers to investigate any situation. This is Margery first christmas in the role of manager so she discuss all the difficulties she encounters along the journey including working with limited resources.
All the staff in the school were forced by the drama teacher Mrs Smith to take part in the annual school christmas concert which they all hated as they felt they had enough to do in their own roles without giving up the spare time. However during the first rehersal the stage lights feel killing the music teacher Mrs Large, the music teacher. The police didnt want Margery and Clem to get involved but however in the end it was valuable that they were and the principle acknowledged the same. In order to solve the crime they broke in and snuck around another rival school, reviewed video footage aswell as following a man that they had seen outside the school building around the time the murder took place. I really enjoyed the ending and how valuable their curiousity was in solving the crime.

This is my third visit with the Ladies. As before, this is a fun read with some convincing characters and relatable relationships.
There is frivolity, jealousy,, envy, love and sheer single mindedness as well as bitterness and a degree of cruelty.
The setting is fun. The anxieties and frustrations are credible.
There are several examples of poor editing (kindle) .
Having read the author’s notes which are very honest, I’m just happy to have shared in her end result.

This is the second in a series and picks up where the first left off. But, unlike other books in a series, thankfully this one does not constantly remind readers of what we already know. I bought this book ages ago but saved it to read near Christmas. It is a mixture of sadness, amusing anecdotes, disturbing situations and mystery. There is cruelty and kindness. The characters are well drawn and the plotting is tight. However, I would have liked more detail in the conclusion. Loved it. Have pre ordered the next in the series.
