As a first-year mental health nursing student; anatomy and physiology are not my principal interest.
That said, this book was my go-to reference for anatomy and physiology.
For me, it gave sufficient detail with clear descriptions of what I required.
It’s not Grey’s Anatomy but it was what I required.
As stated anatomy was, and remains, not my strong point but it saved me on first-year assignments.
In short, I recommend this book as an initial introduction to a hugely complex subject.

This book becomes very useful at the start of your studies and beyond. It is the perfect introduction to anatomy. It provides you with the key information without overwhelming you, as well as providing both simple and informative diagrams surrounding the topic in question.
Both students and professionals alike are tested on their anatomy knowledge at university and in the workplace so the two-page summaries of the topics this book covers provides the necessary information that you would need in these situations. It also leaves room for development if you wanted to research further into an area of interest. Assessments usually come in the form of written exams at university, where as in the work place it tends to come in the form of patients asking questions or how you decide on the right course of care.
I feel that this book perfectly addresses the needs of an anatomy readership. It can be such an overwhelming and complicated topic as information is usually thrown at you all at once. Having simple, yet informative, and easy to read information such as this book makes anatomy a simpler and less daunting topic to cover, especially with it being such an integral part of the nursing and healthcare profession. It doesn’t overcomplicate topics and perfectly marries written information and diagrams.
The content included is up to date with current developments and I feel that for anatomy at a glance all the necessary topics are covered in the right amount of detail. The inclusion of a glossary, as well as tables for common prefixes and suffixes is an incredible addition to an already amazing published piece of work.
I truly enjoy the use of the accompanying diagrams opposite the topic pages. The fact that each topic has one page for diagrams and one page for written information is what I believe sets this book apart from any other anatomy resources I have used in the past. It is well organised and includes a glossary of terms for wording that can sometimes make a difficult topic even harder.
For me personally, I would like if some of the text was in bold. I like it when books put key words within paragraphs in bold as it highlights key words for that topic for a quick and easy skim read.
I use quite a selection of Ian Peate books as I believe his publications are some of the best resources to use when informing your learning and I would highly recommend them to anyone
