The book was a gift for somebody, they’ve commented on the quality of the contents and I haven’t asked them – but the book was delivere din a timely fashion.
by Michelle Manvell
The book is interesting and informative, but as someone who is interested understanding how the structure of buildings works and hold up (e.g. how do the bricks in the centre of arches just stay there and not fall out?) a few more diagrams might have aided my understanding about the form and function of buildings, rather than just the various “styles”.

The book seems to have all the information you’d expect it to, but it just doesn’t make me want to read it, being a bit bland and colourless. This may just be me and all to do with my taste in books or how my brain works/interprets things, but I just thought I’d mention. Big book though, lots of topics and a lot of helpful information.

Very comprehensive and informative

This book is an excellent introduction to the topic. It covers how buildings are designed and the planning process. Follows on with starting from the first buildings ever built and how they change over time. The designers, architects and key features of different styles and eras are covered in depth and really enable you to appreciate the design… and if a building is just a building or if it is architecture. Great book to start you off in the subject.
