De Sautoy couldn’t really be bothered, he just phoned it in. Games are half-described, then he goes off into maths that has no purpose because it relates to rules he was too lazy to mention.

Very enjoyable read for anyone who enjoys any type of game

Really enjoying the read. The title is a genuine nod towards the original 80 Days so the book is an anthropological and geographical as well as an historical stroll through games of all kinds (mainly but not only board games) explaining how understanding the mathematics behind the games may well give the reader the edge without spoiling the fun of playing.
