£11.50

“Close-up views of endangered fauna in their natural habitats are difficult enough to obtain, but the breathtaking artistic quality of the photography in this valuable documentation of Asia’s disappearing forest habitats makes this book highly recommended for both scientists and nature lovers alike.” –Robert Stuebing, The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago. Author of A Field Guide to the Snakes of Borneo

Asia’s Wildlife provides rare insights into Asia’s breathtaking tropical forests and the rare species that inhabit them–many of which are now endangered. Proceeds from this book will go to support the conservation activities of BirdLife International.

Produced to raise funds and awareness of nature conservation through their Forest of Hope program, Asia’s Wildlife is a mesmerizing year-long photographic journey of the expedition taken by Fanny Lai and photographer Bjorn Olesen. Readers can become part of their journey as they observe, photograph, and describe Asia’s most distinctive animal species. The trip brings you to the most remote and biodiverse forests in eight different countries in Asia, and gives you the opportunity to learn about rarely seen–let alone photographed–endangered animal species.

Over 190 images and illustrations feature 129 different animal species, of which 72 are national endemics, including:

  • The Giant Cloud Rat
  • The majestic Philippine Eagle
  • The critically endangered Helmeted Hornbill
  • And many other fascinating creatures!

Discover the ongoing conservation efforts to protect these precious forests, as well as very real threats to the future of the animals and habitats.

Flipping through this book you would be sure to find stunning photography no matter the page you land on. With interesting perspectives and insights on the various forests in Asia. I felt as if I were on an expedition myself, as I progressed through this book. Highly recommended for anyone looking to learn or appreciate the wildlife Asia’s forests contain.

An inspiring book which left us, as nature lovers, with feelings of hope for the living creatures in Asia’s forests.
Our existence on Planet Earth is fragile and this book is yet another reminder that we drastically need to protect and maintain as much of the natural world as possible. It features breathtakingly beautiful and awe-inspiring photographs of some of the rarely seen and endangered species in the remote forests of Asia. The documentation makes absorbing and interesting reading and gives knowledge and provides valuable insight into the work of many dedicated conservationists.
We highly recommend this book to anyone interested in preserving the wildness and with a burning desire to reverse environmental damage.

I thought that the superb photographs, particularly of the birds, would be what interested me the most in this beautiful book but I was delighted to discover that this is far more than just an attractive coffee table book. The text is very analytical and well balanced and steers a well judged course between the 2 extremes of A) Gee, isn’t it all beautiful and incredible and B) Isn’t humanity the scourge of the planet and everything is doomed. It cheered me up and raised my hopes to read about the various initiatives taking place in the places they visited. Fingers crossed for our grandchildrens’ sakes. What a marvellous and miraculous planet we live on. My favourite bit was the migration of the Amur Falcon. Well done and keep up the good work.

This is a beautifully illustrated book to a top site in each of 8 Asian countries. It is beautifully produced with stunning images. However, it is not just a coffee table book as there is a lot of informative text brought together by consulting experts in the respective countries. It lies somewhere between a where to watch wildlife guide and a coffee table book and strikes a good balance in reaching a wider audience. This book will make people want to visit some of Asia’s most beautiful and precious wilderness areas.

This is another excellet book from these two authors following their book ‘ A Visual Celebration of Borneo’s Wildlife’. This book features 8 important forests situated in 8 separate SE Asian countries. There is an introduction to each forest and why it is so important to preserve it. The highlight of this book is Bjorn Oleson’s wonderful photography. As a keen birder and wildlife photographer myself, I know the time, preparation and skill required in obtaining these images. The additional fact that proceeds of the sale go to support birdlife international makes this a must buy for any wildlife enthusiast.

Fanny Lai and Bjorn Olesen’s latest book is another great display of their passion for the preservation of nature, conveyed in such a visually stunning and linguistically engaging way. A great book that will appeal to a wide audience, including those less knowledgeable about nature’s amazing diversity and depth (such as us!). We this display of Bjorn’s patience as a photographer, distilled into a selection of only the finest photographic moments after months of work in the field. Fanny’s and Bjorn’s writing and descriptions are both vivid and approachable, while displaying a rare amount of knowledge and passion in their field. Thank you for another wonderful opus!
