Very well written book, with calm explanation of things that appear complex until someone explains them to you, and sometimes there is no one who could. I would highly recommend this to everyone who just got his / her first car, as it will greatly reduce the stress of having to care about a pleasant, but expensive and fragile thing you’ve got.
One thing I don’t like in this book is that it uses imperial units. It’s only good for USA, as the rest of the world uses metric system. So, miles per gallon and things like that just make me to get the point, not the fact, and I like getting facts.
I would recommend author to get a calculator and create a “World” edition of this book.

Really this is a very general introduction to car components and systems intermingled with a great deal of padding. Telling readers how to ‘complain effectively’ has nothing to do with auto repair. The general trawl through adaptive cruise control, rollover stability, etc may be of some interest but has nothing to do with maintenance or repair.
The jaunty style can irritate. Telling readers that something is obvious and then going on to describe it anyway can be jarring.
But I have to say I ended up feeling much warmer to the book than I sound so far. It doesn’t really tell you how to repair anything much, but it probably answers two questions for people like me who know very little about cars: 1. Is it reasonable to expect to tackle your problem yourself, and 2. what should you do next? That’s a start and it’s worth the purchase price.

I brought this for my niece for Christmas and she loves it, it has everything she needs to learn as she is going to college for mechanics next year. Thankfully she saw the funny side and she is very happy with it. A really good buy and a bit of fun at the same time 🙂

You have to get this book, it is invaluable, you will learn how to change the oil in your car and how to do maintenance on your car. Since getting this book my car has been running much better, from following the advice in this book.

I originally purchased this book for myself and other family members when they became car owners. On this occasion, I ordered this book, for a young woman, who is a friend and neighbour, who is fairly unfamiliar with how a motor vehicle is constructed and maintained. This book has proved to be an extremely useful guide for anyone who owns a car and wants to maintain it.
