Trace the patterns from the book, easy to follow instructions
by Fourth Duchess
I liked the useful patterns but wanted more for Ken really. Plenty of stuff to get through, constant requests from grandchildren for different outfits
by Charlotte
It’s very useful. I bought it mainly for Ken’s sewing patterns but the Barbie ones are good too.
by Mary Brighty
The patterns aren’t on pull out sheets so you’ll need to get some tracing paper to copy them. I would also suggest that you read the instructions before cutting out your pattern pieces. There are several garments that have darts, but the pattern pieces show them as cut outs. An example of this is the prom dress on page 60 who h has a bodice with darts.
It would also have been helpful if the author had suggested different fabrics you could use for making the garments. I don’t like the one piece patterns either (eg. dress on page 48). I’d rather sew a shoulder seam and save fabric.
The book is useful as a starting point and the patterns can be adapted. However, I wouldn’t recommend the book for a completely novice sewer.

Nothing
by Debra McGuinness
I have made a couple of things from this book, but everything is coming out on the small side. I thought it was my sewing at first and I was getting very frustrated. But I have realised , it was the pattern. I have had another book by this lady and the patterns where fine.

Nice book, the patterns are like olden day ones. Looks like they tryed to revamp in the book. I was disappointed, I didn’t get round to sending it back, probably will never use it. Made better myself by drawing round the doll.

I really enjoyed the previous book, “Sewing clothes for Barbie” by the same author, and whilst this book has the bonus of 5 outfits for Ken, they are overall quite limited and repetitive in places.
The Ken outfits are:
– Sporty Ken (sleeveless top, shorts, barrel sports bag)
– Prince Ken (jacket and trousers)
– Fashion Ken (hoodie and jeans)
– Tuxedo Ken (shirt, jacket and trousers)
– Rock Ken (t-shirt, trousers and jacket)
There are no sleeved t-shirts or dress shirts for Ken. The Rock Ken t-shirt has turned out to be another sleeveless top (as shown in the attached photo). The shirt in the Tuxedo Ken outfit is actually another sleeveless one, which I can only assume the author has designed so that it fits under his tuxedo. It’s a shame though because there’s less chance to mix and match outfits.
There are 3 stretchy t-shirts for Barbie which are all very similar (apart from length and fit) and only 2 pairs of trousers this time (one 3/4 length – see photo, and the other is a pair of wide-leg trousers) – if you don’t include the shorts (which annoyingly, I didn’t realise were ‘cut-off’ ones without a hem).
There are errors still: I tried making the President skirt for my curvy Barbie but the pattern alone wouldn’t fit around her body, so I ended up adding 2cm to the width. The same pattern for the original size Barbie was fine however, so I don’t know if this is a one-off. There are darts shown on Prince Ken’s trouser pattern which shouldn’t be there. I’m not a fan of patterns which connect the back and front of garments by the shoulder – which is the case for a number of Barbie’s tops and dresses. This makes cutting out the fabric really wasteful, and personally I cut the pattern in half, added on seam allowance at the shoulder and joined the back and front together. A problem with the method that the author has used means that larger patterns need to cross a double page, and as can be seen in the photo, it hasn’t lined up well for the Shopping dress, so I probably won’t attempt to make this.
If you want some basic separates for Ken, as well as further outfits for Barbie, then this is a useful book. I would however recommend the first book for more variety and versatility if all you want are clothes for Barbie.
