For this price the book is great. A lot of pictures. I’m not sure about first reading because I bought for my preschooler who loves Barbie and I read the stories.

This has become our three year olds new favourite bedtime book-especially “barbie….can be a baby doctor” we have read it over and over. It has simple short words that are repeated in simple short sentences. It’s great for introducing them to their first steps to reading. The brightly illustrated pages virtually tell the story so help encourage the first steps of learning to read as well.
I was surprised by how much she enjoys these little short stories. She had been after a book like mummy’s- a thick book-in other words one with chapters. As I’m sure you’re aware preschoolers don’t have the attention spans for books like that just yet so this book has managed to satisfy her wishes as it looks like a “big girl’s book”
The other positive is that the stories are pretty short despite appearing to have lots of pages so are good if you’re short of time 😉

This book is excellent!!! I can not recommend it highly enough for a young early reader!
Our little one is at the stage of reading where she can sound out most words. She watches her older siblings reading novels and has been looking forward to the time when she can as well. This is 5 short stories (which can be bought individually in 5 thin books) all put together. So it looks and feels to her like a ‘chapter book’.
The first few stories are very easy to read. Shorter simpler sentences with easier words. Being able to just pick it up, open it and actually start reading it is a massive confidence booster. As it is Barbie, and fun, bright, colourful and super cute and girly, it draws them in and makes them want to know what the book says.
The last books are a stage 2 so they are a little harder. More, slightly longer sentences on each page but as their confidence has built through the easier books they just immediately attempt to read it, which otherwise on its own might have seemed harder. And again, as it’s Barbie taking on a new career, they desperately want to be able to know what it says.
They’re really cute stories. The baby doctor one is adorable with the pictures of Barbie with all the babies.
I know some people can be quite against Barbie, as if it’s anti-feminist or something. I personally feel this is completely the opposite. These stories show that Barbie (or girls) have loads of career options. There’s loads more book in the series available as well providing even more career possibilities.
This book has begun a love of reading in my little one which I hope and pray will only build from here. This will be seen by her always as her first ‘real book’ and she’s been taking it places with her so if she gets a minute she can keep reading it.
One negative however was some of the pages fell out the day after she got it, which is pretty poor. We have taped them back in but now they don’t sit perfectly anymore. Still worth it though.
