‘Our actions are a direct result of our thoughts. If we have a negative mind, we will have a negative life. If, on the other hand, we renew our mind according to God’s Word, we will prove out “the good and acceptable and perfect will of God” for our lives.’ Worry, doubt, confusion, depression, anger and feelings of condemnation – all these are attacks on the mind. But take heart! Joyce Meyer has helped millions to change their lives by changing the way they think. Joyce Meyer’s all-time bestselling book: * Shows you how to control the thousands of thoughts you have every day * Helps you to recognise damaging thoughts that can influence your life * Identifies the ‘Wilderness Mentalities’ that hold us back * Demonstrates how to focus your mind to think the way Jesus thought Joyce shares the trials, tragedies and ultimate victories from her own marriage, family and ministry that have led her to amazing, life-transforming truth, and reveals her thoughts and feelings every step of the way.

There are two things this book will bring about – OBEDIENCE that brings life and CHANGE that brings the best life God has for us.

I borrowed a copy of this book but it is so brilliant I needed my own copy. The title maybe implies it is for someone struggling with their mental health but it is a fantastic guide for all. It’s about making the best of yourself and I really think it is life changing. The book is inspired by faith in God but even for a non-religious person it has really practical, inspirational messages that will improve your life if you absorb them.

Read it a few years ago after a mental breakdown. It was a key piece in putting myself back together and recovering. Love how real she is and how she links in God’s word (Bible verses). Bought a copy for a friend for Christmas this year and another for myself.
Note: read with a notebook on hand!! Or highlighters and a pen to write all over it. Absolute gold in this book!

As my wife says, I ‘live life through books’. I have read quite a few books on similar subjects. Each one approaches the subject in different ways.

The thing I really liked about this book is that it is very real. Joyce writes in a way that allows you to be challenged without feeling condemned. I think it has contained one of the most important bits of information early on in the book – i.e. that a change in the mind will take time and we don’t need to beat ourselves up if we fall back into the same pattern briefly. This has really helped me. It doesn’t mean I am happy to keep falling into wrong patterns of thinking but it does mean that I don’t sink down to the depths of despair when I do.

There is a LOT of important truth in this book. She uses scripture well and expands it and makes it practical.

I felt that the third part of the book entitled ‘wilderness mentalities’ wasn’t so relevant to me at the moment, but I am sure that many will find them useful if those are the thought patterns they battle with: Eg. ‘My future is determined by my past and present’ or ‘I can’t help it – I’m just addicted to grumbling’, ‘My behaviour may be wrong, but it’s not my fault.’

I would suggest that EVERY Christian read this book because we all suffer from a battle for the mind, not just those who might have ‘addictions’ or ‘serious struggles’. This contains many truths we need to be aware of and much practical advise on how to win the battle for the mind.

Read this first, years ago – gave my copy to a friend so this was a replacement. It’s a great book, for Christians who struggle with negative thoughts in particular – I remember the first time I read it and just went “That’s me!!”” on almost every page….. it IS a battle, a daily struggle, but this book has helped me to make progress, although with me it’s easy to get into a loop of worrying about what I’m thinking! All Joyce Meyer’s books have helped me at one time or another.

If you’re in an awkward/testing place in your life regarding your faith or lack of it alongside battling depression. I fully recommend this book, it has honestly changed my outlook on everything and has removed the shame I once felt by my thinking. I’m now on a spiritual journey and I’ve never felt so comforted by the words of God! This book has triggered a strong desire to read the bible and connect with God more than ever. I honestly feel that God led me to this book. Thank you Joyce for your soothing words and attaching them with the relevant bible verses, you have provided me with the missing insight I so desperately needed. May God continue to bless your life and work.
