As a member of the BCS and active in the development of modern, relevant certifications and qualification I find this latest edition embarrasing. Comparing it to a much older edition from over 20 years ago you still will find concepts and approaches at the heart of the book that were becoming out-dated back then. This needs significantly updating rather than simply bundling in a few new terms such as IoT and Cloud. Dismissing ‘alternative’ approaches such as Object Oriented and Service Oriented as just that undermines the credibility of the working group that puts this together and makes it increasingly irrelevant to modern IT practitioners and practices.
Yes, the underpinning core elements of what a computer is and how it works still holds and should be there…
… but how modern systems and distributed architectures (a topic omiited) are changing to meet the needs of society… this book fails, and in doing so fails against the mission of the BCS.
